I've seen a commercial on CNBC for a show that's going to be on next Thursday at 9:00. It's called something like groceries llc or something like that. It's about how the grocery stores spy on you and your purchases. Let's all watch it and report back. Sounds interesting. Big Brother watches us, we all know that. It will be interesting to see what the stores are up to. Anyone up for it?

KOOL! But that's also why they have "shopping cards". You know the ones that give you the sales.. You can't tell me the computers don't capture what each person buys!

The do capture what each person buys, that is the whole point of them! That's how they know which catalinas to print out and which coupons to mail directly to you (Kroger send them to me all the time!) I don't really care though. It's not like I'm buying the stuff to make a meth lab or anything.

when I see the commercial again I'll make a note of the name of the show. It almost looks like they have cameras on people, but that's probably part of what makes it look so interesting.
Commercials are on now. I love to watch Suze Orman (not for anything important, but kind of keeps you in the mindset of saving, etc.) and then 2 episodes of Til Debt Do Us Part. This is about couples who are in serious financial debt and a lady that makes them do certain things each week to get them back on track. Love this show!

The host explores the supermartket industry, observing that individual consumer's shopping habits are being studied as never before and pointing out marketing tricks such as placing milk at the back of the store to force buyers to pass other items.

Not to hijack the thread, but I love "Til Debt Do Us Part" - she's very no-nonsense and I can't believe how clueless that people are regarding finances. I mean, you really didn't know you were spending $%k/month more than you were bringing in? Really?
It's based in Canada and it seems as if Lines of Credit are much more popular than credit cards - even for people who aren't homeowners.

I love the episode where the couple didn't meet the challanges and the guy got pissed off cause they didn't get the money... HECK, he's a construction business owner buys what he wants (not for the business) yet can't see what his spending is doing to his wife! The host offered to pay for counseling for her, but not for him! DAMN! I'd love to see follow ups to the episodes!

I've been watching it for a couple of years now. Sometimes I wish each show was an hour though. I definitely think they could go more "in depth" in some areas.

don't really care though. It's not like I'm buying the stuff to make a meth lab or anything. Read more: The cards are used now to track your purchases. The stores (from what I read a while back) are selling the info to health and life insurance companies for a data base they are setting up. You want health insurance? Hold please while I check on your diet.

There has to be a benefit for corporations to offer deals with these cards. The benefit for them is what I'm referrring to.

I saw that show where the wife was offered counseling. I so felt sorry for her when her husband was going off like a crazy person on her. And I would totally love to see followups to see who follows Gails plan and who doesnt'. My guess is probably a good 80% or more don't follow through. I loved the couple that got upset with Gail for touching them I know that stores do alot of tracking of your purchases, but it sounds like they have hit some new lows with what they are doing with your information. I know cc companies will increase your interest rates if you all of a sudden start shopping at places like Walmart or Salvation Army, or if you are purchasing a certain amount of alcohol, etc. They are making the assumption that you will start not paying your bill if these types of actions start up. Wonder where they bought their crystal balls from?

There has to be a benefit for corporations to offer deals with these cards. The benefit for them is what I'm referrring to. It can't be EXACTLY what you're referring to because there are still too many places to buy things that don't have cards. I buy a lot of our fruits and veggies at a produce stand - no card. My whole grain bread is purchased at an Oroweat Outlet - no card. Super WalMarts have no card. In addition, some people eat 50% of their diet as fast food - no card. Thus any data being gathered at this point from stores that DO offer cards, would not give "the big picture". BUT there is no doubt that the data is being used for SOMETHING, probably by the store itself.

I may be wrong but I thought they were in Chicago(?) a few weeks back. I do love this show but also wish that it were an hour long and went more in depth.
