:oPolice: Woman Claims 11-Year-Old Told Her To Shoplift 'What Can I Do?,' Woman Asks Police www.wpbf.com/news/26573151/detail.html?source=balFORT PIERCE, Fla. -- Police in Fort Pierce said a woman accused of shoplifting told them that an 11-year-old boy she was with told her to do it. Fort Pierce police said Indira Landa was at the Okeechobee Road store with four children, ages 2 to 15, on Thursday. According to police, Landa and the children walked around the store eating food they did not pay for and put items in shopping bags they had brought to the store with them. Police said Landa then paid for some items, but not others. As they were leaving the store, a witness stopped Landa. When police arrived, they explained that it was her duty to teach the children not to steal. Landa then told police that the 11-year-old she was with was teaching her how to shoplift. Police said they told Landa that it was her job to correct the boy's behavior. Landa said the boy wouldn't listen to her and asked, "What else could I do?" Landa was arrested and taken to the St. Lucie County Jail. The children were released to their father. I don't know which is worse... The woman who wants to sue the mall for her falling into the fountain or this story!

On the flip side, the guard who posted the video was fired.

<<< Landa then told police that the 11-year-old she was with was teaching her how to shoplift. >>> ...ranks right up there with, "but officer, I didn't see the stop sign because I was texting..."

On the flip side, the guard who posted the video was fired. I expected that. People are not going to want to shop at a mall where its OK for security guards to post video of them online without their permission.

When she goes to trial she should get whatever the normal sentence is PLUS an extra 5 years for using that excuse. A grown women stole because an 11 year old kid told her to. OMG how dumb can you get.
As for the woman & the fountain, I just wish that she had been caring her luck anvil with her. That would have solved some problems.

It sounds to me like she may be developmentally disabled.

The news article doesn't tell the whole story, as usual.
"60 Minutes" journalists went back to interview Landa two days afterward. It turns out that her son had triple dog dared her.
I don't condone shoplifting in any way, but these are extenuating circumstances.
