Hi, A friend of mine and I swapped vehicles last night because he needed to use my truck. So I took off with his 98 camaro z28. I don't think he knows a lot about his car. I think the transmission is slipping. When I take off it goes a bit and when the auto transmission is switching gears out of what would be 1st, it lurches forward and then all the power comes after that. After that it is fine as it accelerates after that. Then when I go to stop, it feels like the car stops and then the engine lurches forward again and then stops. That is only when stopping from higher speeds (no I was not drag racing it)
Would this be the transmission slipping? Or the other thing I was thinking was maybe the mounts, but it is more of a power burst than a movement thing.

My camaro is stick shift and my truck is automatic. My truck is older than my friend's camaro and is automatic, but doesn't do that.

Check engine isn't on. I'll go check the fluid and check back. He wants to sell his car and this is a noticeable issue.

I checked his transmission fluid and it is chocolate brown.. I think this may be the issue. He is coming back tomorrow with my truck and I'm going to show him. I bought a bottle of transmission fluid so I can show him the comparison on how his is supposed to look verses what his looks like. He shouldn't race with his car like that or his repair bills will be crazy.
He just had his other car go bad as well. A belt broke and flung around in the engine compartment knocking a hole in his radiator. I think he is one of the types that does maintenance when the check engine light comes on. Because if one changes the belts as preventative maintenance.. then they won't break.

The damage is already done But but.. the check engine light isn't on.. it is amazing how long someone will not do maintenance and then not pay attention to the problem because there was no check engine light on. I noticed there was a problem the first 30 seconds as I drove off.

I was taught to take care of my cars so I never had these issues. With my camaro, I know exactly what goes on with it and when I need to do what ever maintenance. Mine has driven the same way since I bought it. She drinks a bit more oil in her older age though.
