We have a combination lock on our shed that has got to be 20 years old. I know it has been on our various sheds since 1996 - and I don't think we bought it for that. I think it was hanging around before that.
This weekend we went out for a bike ride, came back, and we can't get the shed open. We both tried the combination, and nothing. It just doesn't open - like we put in the wrong numbers. We can't seem to find any bolt cutters, although I haven't gone door to door yet.
Any ideas on why the lock magically stopped working, and the best way to get it off there so we can put our bikes away?

Your local police more than likely have the appropriate sized bolt cutters. They use them to remove bicycles that have been chained to things they shouldn't be. If you have a local hardware store and you know the people, they may let you borrow bolt cutters, rather than buy them.

Yes, they dial spins around, and we've put the combo in a bunch of times. It might be rusted. I was wondering if the dial slipped over a few numbers, so if instead of putting in 15-2-27 I put in 13-0-25 or something. Is it possible that the dial just isn't connected to the lock anymore?
I couldn't find this on-line anywhere. I think everyone on the planet loses their locks or forgets the combination before they get this old, so this is a brand new problem.

I watched a different version of that earlier. I guess I need to drink a coke.

Ok, when you do get it off, get the next lock with 2 keys. Keep one key on a large master key ring in the house where the key is never removed from the ring.

LMAO!!! We prefer the term "mobile home subdivision"... How about "tornado magnet"? Ok, I guess your phrasing does sound a little bit nicer... Yes, I grew up in Kansas. Could you tell?

I already have another combination lock. Oddly, I had the combination, but lost the lock - isn't it usually the other way around. But the lock was discovered after an aggressive hunt for it this week. So, I'm ready to go. I just need to get that other lock off.

Go to HomeDepot and get a small electric saw.

if the WD-40 doesn't work use a hammer. That's how we got it off at work.

Reminds me when the video was circulating how easy it was to break into Kryptonite bicycle lock with a Bic pen of all things.

When we moved in there was some sort of a steal tie down in the corner of our yard. It extended under the fence & into the neighbors yard. I was talking to the neighbor one day & she asked me if I could remove it. I started digging it up & found that it went down "forever" so I got my little dremmel out with a cutting wheel on it. About an hour later I had it cut off. It's a slow process but it can be done if you have a dremmel.
I didn't use a saw because I wanted it cut off below ground & the dremmel let me cut it off in the whole that I had dug.

That could take a while with a Dremmel.

It did but I wanted it cut off below ground. If part of it was sticking up someone could have gotten hurt.
