I'm heading down to the auto show with the girlfriend and then to MGM for a late dinner and some cards. Just figured I'd let my friends on here know, just in case...

I also run an unofficial tour bus. We see such historic sites as the infamous Cass Corridor (or murder row), Jimmy Hoffa's unofficial burial site, 8 mile's notorious strip clubs (more like brothels) and of course the 7 mile & John R's crackwhore row (where 22-26 year old suburban "cuties" go after the strip clubs, crack and meth have destroyed their beautiful young bodies, teeth and soul)! Kevlar vests are provided as well as 1 small bag of circus peanuts. Beers and other spirits are priced accordingly.

Truthfully, I'd rather stop and talk to a few of the lost souls down there. Maybe one or two would awaken from their nightmare life and change??? I don't judge people, because who knows what they've gone through. But, I also don't feel sorry for people who make poor decisions. Life's tough when you make the wrong decisions and consistently fail to learn from them.

Used to go to Ladbroke DRC
Played the ponies there....and then we would cross the river and head over to the "clubs"
You couldnt pay me to go anywhere near that city now....
It was dangerous then....it is beyond comprehension now
It is a dying city.....but unlike Pittsburgh of the 70's no new industries are popping up

It's another world outside of a few "safe" areas down there. I carry a .38, so I feel a little protected. But, you never want to assume you're safe. Tax dollars keep getting sucks down the drain or into a corrupt politician's pocket. I used to call the last mayor, Kwame Kilpatrick, the used car salesman-pimp mayor. He's facing multiple federal charges. Sad thing is... he'd still get re-elected over an honest politician if he hadn't agreed not to ever run for office as part of a plea bargain for perjury charges.

No one is actually "from" Detroit. Even Detroiters are suburbanites. Auto Show? No. Hors d'ourves in Greektown. Salad & snack at the Majestic. Entree at the Atlas. Gotta have dessert at Traffic Jam & Snug... be sure to have some of the English Strong Ale.

This is such a depressing thread. In my youth Detroit was romanticized as a blue collar Shangri-La.
I grew up in a small Wisconsin town that had a couple plastics factories and a couple transformer coil winding factories. The people that worked in those factories made low wages and got no respect. Their kids got no respect from teachers or fellow students (unless they were good at sports). The parents and the kids both fantasized about Detroit. This was their image of Detroit:
Blue collar ruled! Through sheer numbers the blue collar folks demanded high wages, political clout, and social respect. No elitist eggheads or worthless deadbeats allowed! Everybody made lots of money and drank beer straight from the can (or from a mug, if it's draft). Young folks cruised up and down Woodward Avenue every night in kickass cars. Middle-aged folks went bowling, to the tavern to watch sports (and drink beer from mugs), or to the neighbors' to cook steaks on charcoal grills (and drink beer from cans). Retired folks drew big pensions and moved to Florida to play shuffleboard (and drink prune juice from plastic tumblers).
Not true at all, but a great fantasy.

"After Paul Clemens spent a year watching men disassemble a Detroit stamping plant, he discovered that taking apart industry is its own industry." Read more: notmsnmoney.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=moneytalk&action=display&thread=2066#ixzz1CcHJJcZsMichigan was part of the Indiana Territory before it became a state. It became a state because it was covered in trees that could be harvested for lumber. It very quickly became noted for its lumber industry until over-harvesting and the irresponsible build-up of stumps and limbs along logging roads caused A GREAT FIRE that burnt most of it down. That industry fell-off and was replaced by medicine bottles and wood stoves. We became the recognized leader in wood stoves until the industrial age ushered in coal and oil burners. That lull gave Henry Ford the motivation to try starting his Ford Motor Company for a 6th time (the charm?) and we all know what happened then. It's only a matter of time until the Texas Oil Terrorists die off and we are forced to turn around the nation with alternatives or succumb to pedal mobility. Guess which state is surrounding by long bodies of water with natural air currents strong enough to generate air and water power sources? Do you know what Texas is without OIL MANIPULATION? A mess of nothing.
