Another Strike against Hickeys :(

A woman was partially paralyzed from a hickey that caused her to have a small stroke, the New Zealand Medical Journal said according to a media report.

The 44-year-old New Zealander went to the emergency room after she found that she couldn't move her left arm while she was watching TV, The Christchurch Press reported.

Doctors concluded that she had had a stroke but were perplexed as to why, the paper said. Then they found a "love bite" on her neck near a major artery, and discovered a clot in the artery beneath the hickey — a small vertical bruise.

"Because it was a love bite there would be a lot of suction," said Dr. Wu, who attended to the woman over a year ago at the Middlemore Hospital in Auckland, according to the paper. "Because of the physical trauma it had made a bit of bruising inside the vessel."

He added the clot traveled to the woman's heart and caused the stroke.

"We looked at the medical literature and that example of having a love bite causing something like that hasn't been described before," Dr Wu said.

The Maori woman was treated with an anticoagulant and the clot disappeared within a week, doctors said.

Gee with that much suction don't you have to wonder what the other person did for a living? Maybe they were a professional gas thief (suctioning gas all over town).

I guess the way to prevent this from happening is to ask for hickeys in areas where there aren't any arteries. Let's see.......

The ending of this story is this is why my wife said she didn't want to canoodle with me last night, lame ass reason. Why not just say she wants to get paid for it like any normal woman?

Just be careful if someone is vacuuming near you - they might be out to kill you. That hose could be used as a lethal weapon if applied too close to an artery.

Just as an aside to this story, my younger brother years ago used to have an idiosyncrasy when watching TV or working at his desk. He would pull on the skin and tissue on his neck by his carotid artery. After years of this he developed scar tissue in the artery that broke off and traveled to a stopping point in a smaller artery that fed his optic nerve for his left eye. This happened while watching TV with our father. He said the vision in his left eye just dimmed and went out. By the time he got to the hospital his optic nerve was dead. He has been blind in his left eye for about 30 years now. This story about the hickey has a similar resonance.

Amazing stories! I've never liked hickey's. They hurt! And my only nervous or bad habit is lip chewing. It causes wrinkles which I hate but I love lip chewing. Will doing that kill me???

In reality, a hickey is a form of abuser ownership mark. Like any bruise from a SO is.

Does it make a difference if the hickey is visible versus non-visible?
