I am in my early 50s. Believe it or not, I have been going through menopause since summer of 2008. Symptoms have revved up again, I can't believe this. Do hot flashes seem more intense after a kidney stone, UTI, nasal infection, anything???

I've just started getting hot flushes. Everyone else is wrapping up warm for winter and I'm outside in the snow in a T shirt trying to cool down. Goodness knows what it will be like in the summer months.

I've been on HRT for the last 2 years from severe hot flashes. It works well for me. I probably suffered about a year before I cried uncle and asked for some help with it.
When I was hospitalized, the surgeon was worried about DVTs, so they took me off of it. In less than a week, my hot flashes ramped up to pre-HRT levels. In a hospital bed, I'd be wearing a johnny and a sheet and sweat through both. I had my room temp set at 62 and still couldn't get comfortable.
Once I got more mobile, they started me back on my HRT, so no more hot flashes. Whew!

I used to drive to work with the ac on so high that I would have to wipe the inside of the windshield of condensation so I could see out.
Couldn't take hrt due to strong family hx breast cancer.
I am 60 now and haven't had one for almost a year.

I am comfortable most of the time but cannot get over hot in the summer from exercise.
I am afraid of hrt because of mother's b.c. history. I use Estroven extra strength. Prior to that I used an herbal combination from a late chiropractor friend.
The odd sequence of events happened in the very bad year 1999. I had gone in for the annuals. My DD had an emergency hysterectomy. From her problems which are hereditary, the MD decided I needed a hysterectomy to alleviate the symptoms I had quit complaining about because they fell on deaf ears.
This bad news was sprung on me while my DH was gone working for an extended period of time. Almost immediately I started retaining water and swelling. My chiro friend listened and helped with the herbal.
Fast forward a few years and we are changing insurance plans. The ins. agent checks my records and announces the recommendation while DH there. The first he heard of it. I was well into menopause but had to sign a form I wouldn't make a claim for a hysterectomy for 2 years. That was about 8 y.a. and I still have all my parts and a different MD.

So far it is just the night time that is giving me fits. There are less blankets on the bed and the fan runs year round at night. Some supplements that I have gotten from the naturopath really seem to help.

I had the a/c set pretty low in my apartment the summer before I went on hrt. Night time was the worst as it would be nothing to have 6 or so hot flashes at night.
In the winter though, it was worse. I'd have a hot flash and sweat, and then would be chilled to the bone after it was over. So I'd have to get up and change clothes. Lather, rinse, repeat.

Has anyone had issues with migraines? I had never had a migraine in my life until I hit about 48, then I started getting them the second day of my cycle and they would last two to three days. It wasn't hard to figure out it was hormone related.

It wasn't hard to figure out it was hormone related. I have had only one migraine since the hot flashes started. As uncomfortable as the hot flashes are, I'll take them over the debilitating migraine any say. I meant to preface this with the fact that I had migraines my whole life, even as a young child.

I just can't believe that it has gone on this long and how more intense the hot flashes are. Thanks for your responses.

I am going to be 64 this month and haven't finished menopause or ever had a hot flash. I am getting a biopsy this month to see if something is wrong with me because I am too old, menopause should be done around 60 if not sooner.

Sharon, I never had a migraine 'til I was in my late 30's. I went to the doctor to find out what it was, because it was messing with my eyesight. (I was actually relieved it was migraines!) My doctor did say many women get migraines who've never had 'em before around my age due to hormone changes. Oh, joy! Oh, & yes I usually get the hot flashes in the middle of the night. Covers on, covers off. Rinse & repeat.... Crone, checking with your doctor is probably a good idea, but my Mom was older than you when she finished "going thru the change".

I've started with the really bad headaches, and have one as I'm typing. I can't believe the pup is giving me the stink eye because he wants to go for a walk. It's 90+ out, humid as crap, and I have a killer headache. He'll just have to get over it. I've been on the pill most of my adult life because of issues. It sure helps but I've noticed it's not quite as effective as it used to be, but I sure don't want to go off it yet. I've had hot flashes, but not the killer ones that I know are coming
