A friend asked me if I thought her insurance company would use information she posted on the ins. cos. fitness tracking webpage against her. I could not answer so I decided to ask here.
The ins. co. will reward the poster at the end of the year or will pay a portion of a fitness membership at an approved facility. An approved facility is not available for this rural person.
The concern was stated if the ins. co. would look at her track record of food consumed, exercise, and then a high BP and say that they correlate.
If the ins. co. would scrutinize any slacking off in fitness area.
Thanks for any help.

I wouldn't do it.
My job has a program where you get paid $120/year to put your health information into their site and regularly update it. However, NONE of this information falls under HIPAA, so it can be used in order to 'direct' you to a healthier lifestyle. I also have some concern that it could be used by either the university or my health insurance company.
I would imagine that this program also falls under something similarly. Since there is no pay off for your friend, why risk it? She has absolutely NOTHING to gain and far more to lose.

By "NONE of this information falls under HIPAA" she also means the information can be shared with the employer. I am shocked by the number of people at my job signing up. NO WAY!

Me too. I get regular reminders that I'm leaving money on the table from my job but IMO it's not worth it.
When I mentioned that their health information is not protected to various coworkers, many of them have opted out of doing it anymore.
