I make a little almost every day holding UDN, the bearish dollar ETF. I used to try to guess or take expert advise when something was going to bottom. I've given up trying and now wait for an inflection point to come. I haven't found that the theorists are ever dependable on predicting currencies, so I wait for the technicals.

If the economy takes off Dollar up.
If the middle East goes crazy Dollar up.
One of the two is happening now.
My opinion.

Old school dumb question here. Shouldn't a low dollar increase demand for USA products and help with the private sector unemployement problems?

USA,which is it? The economy is improving or it is not improving? You should make up your mind as like clockwork you have been praising the economy as it is magic and we have had a 100% turnaround and everything is coming up roses. That is the analysis you give out yet you state, Quote: If the economy takes off Dollar up. Try watching the FOREX and ICE DOLLAR INDEX and start learning about fiat currency.

Come June, with no QE3, we dip, but within a year I'd bet that interest rates start to rise. When that happens, dollar up!

I could truly care less if the dip turns into a drop and my mom, brother, and I all end up back in the same house plus a couple wives and four kids. It would be worth it to see some light at the end of this insane deficit tunnel and believe once again that it isn't an oncoming train.

I am...just not sure of the timing.
We'll see what the Fed says today. I would like to hear they are at least thinking of tightening.

It is the start of a long term climb. Buy the dollar. Sell the Euro.

Dollar is holding up pretty good. All the angst about the dollar has faded in the last few weeks. With the killing of Bin Laden and the end of QE2 the dollar should have a nice run for a wile.

I bought the Mexican Peso once when there were rumors of an imminent devaluation. Rumor was denied about an hour later. One of my best trades.
We're already in an uptrend [US DOLLAR INDEX (NYBOT:DX)], And money, velocity, & flows, have at least temporarily bottomed. BUY BUY BUY.

I was a little early on the dollar and getting out of Gold. But I'd rather be early than late.

The dollar will rise for a couple of different reasons...............
it will rise, but not for any GOOD reasons. best of the worst, world currencies, does not make for a good foundation investment,
the aussie, swiss, and canadian, are the only real fiat currency values

it will at the expense of the ignorant. the aussie, swiss, and canadian currencies are the only currencies that should be bought, if you are fleeing to safety.
moving from the pot to the fire is a trap, and those that move into the dollar will find this out, to their detriment.
but- if this is a very short term money play, it will work, as you can take advantage of the stupid of the world.

Dollar strength is in the short-run related to the yield curve. The yield curve is at this point primarily a function of Treasury borrowings (e.g. now the debt ceiling impasse).
Faster economic growth would portend higher private loan demand. But wages and jobs continue to stagnate. And MVt topped in July.
