The head of Iran's elite Revolutionary Guard said on Saturday Saudi Arabia lacked the courage to go through with a plan to send ground troops to Syria, and warned they would be wiped out if they went in.

A Direct Turkey-Russia Clash Is a Growing Risk on Syria Border

There’s only one major group of combatants in the Syrian war that’s backed by both Russia and the U.S. — and now Turkey is attacking it.

For a fourth day on Tuesday, Turkey unleashed its 155-millimeter heavy guns across the border with Syria. The targets were Kurdish forces, whose recent advance is a key part of the Russian plan to restore President Bashar al-Assad’s control over Syria.

Syria’s five-year war has turned into a tangled web of proxy conflicts between global and regional powers, with a growing risk that some of them could clash directly.

World War III Could Start This Month

Three-hundred fifty thousand soldiers, 20,000 tanks, 2,450 warplanes and 460 military helicopters are massing in northern Saudi Arabia for a military exercise that is being called "Northern Thunder."

According to the official announcement, forces are being contributed by Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Jordan, Bahrain, Sudan, Kuwait, Morocco, Pakistan, Tunisia, Oman, Qatar, Malaysia and several other nations. This exercise will reportedly last for 18 days, and during that time the airspace over northern Saudi Arabia will be closed to air traffic. This will be the largest military exercise in the history of the region, and it comes amid rumors that Saudi Arabia and Turkey are preparing for a massive ground invasion of Syria.

If you were going to gather forces for an invasion, this is precisely how you would do it. Governments never come out and publicly admit that forces are moving into position for an invasion ahead of time, so "military exercises" are a common excuse that gets used for this sort of thing.

U.S. Scrambles to Contain Growing ISIS Threat in Libya

The Islamic State’s branch in Libya is deepening its reach across a wide area of Africa, attracting new recruits from countries like Senegal that had been largely immune to the jihadist propaganda....

.....Islamic State leaders in Syria are telling recruits traveling north from West African nations like Senegal and Chad, as well as others streaming up through Sudan in eastern Africa, not to press on to the Middle East. Instead, they are being told to stay put in Libya......

.....“ISIS is spreading even to here,” said Col. Guirane Ndiaye, a Senegalese zone commander. “If we do not have a multinational effort, ISIS will spread even more.”

However, if you look at the article from the last post in regards to Libya - how the Islamic State is telling African recruits to NOT push onto the Mid East - the Balkans is a more likely destination for the Islamic State recruits from Germany.

The Islamic State (ISIS) is taking on recruits faster than anyone can keep up with, and it’s heading towards Libya’s oil crescent, eyeing billions of barrels that a country at war with itself cannot protect...

...In mid-December, the United Nations brokered a power-sharing agreement between Libya’s rival factions, but there is no chance of implementing this. That means there is no chance that the Libyan government can fight back the advance of ISIS.....

.....ISIS has already secured the route to the “oil crescent”, which encompasses all the producing fields in the southern desert. It’s done this by taking control of the desert town of Nufaliya, which is about 50 kilometers from Es Sider.

At stake here is Libya’s 48 billion barrels of estimated reserves—the largest in Africa. The civil war alone has shut down over three-quarters of Libya’s production, which might be good for the current oil supply glut, but it’s very bad for Libya and regional stability.

US air strikes won’t likely be enough. ISIS has already cleared a path to the oil crescent, and without a functioning, unified government in Libya, there is no chance of heading them off effectively. Air strikes are but a bandage on a gaping wound.

First, I was wrong, this won't be the first time in history that a war causes an economic depression. We have to go back to the French Revolutionary/Napoleoic Wars to find a time in which war caused oversupply and debt to come home to roost. My apologies, I should have been saying that this will be the first time in modern history that war will cause an economic depression... more on that later.

For now, the reason that media reports claiming that the Islamic State has lost ground in Syria/Iraq are completely bogus is because the Islamic State doesn't recognize boarders, they are out for one reason and one reason only; and that is to demolish. The towns they have "lost control of" are essentially ruins, and neither the Syrian, the Iraqi, or the Kurdish governments have the funds to repair them.

Worse yet, as the illusion of the Mujahideen losing ground grows, the ones fighting them send more weapons into the area on the hope that the Mujahideen is on their way to being defeated; then this happens.

Islamic State militants take over Syrian military base in Aleppo

This comes just two days after ISIS fighters took over the strategic Khanasser-Ithrayya road, cutting off a main supply line for the Syrian regime’s troops between Hama and Aleppo. 

“The Khnasser Ithrayya route was a main supply line for the regime’s troops fighting in Aleppo. The army relied on this line to receive military reinforcements from Hama to support its forces inside Aleppo,” media activist Abdulrahman Taha told ARA News.

After taking over the road and main towns in its surroundings, ISIS fighters had imposed a siege on the regime’s troops in the Air Defense base. The siege led to sporadic clashes and eventually resulted in the withdrawal of the pro-Assad forces from the base on Thursday evening. 

“At least 15 Syrian army soldiers were killed in the clashes, beside the destruction of two tanks at the hands of ISIS fighters,” local media activist Muhannad al-Jassim told ARA News, adding that ISIS militants have seized a large deal of ammunition and heavy weapons after taking over the Air Defense base in southern Aleppo. 

In the meantime, the Syrian army confirmed the evacuation of the military base, calling it a “tactical withdrawal”

Saudi Arabia warns of military plan if Assad does not leave Syria peacefully

Saudi Foreign Minister Adel Al-Jubeir has stressed the need for Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to leave Syria peacefully, warning that his country has prepared a military plan if not.

Al-Jubeir made his remarks on Sunday during a joint press conference with his Danish counterpart Kristian Jensen, in the Saudi capital of Riyadh.

The Saudi minister accused the Assad regime and the Russian air force of violating a “cessation of hostilities” agreement in Syria.

WW3? Fighters From Turkey Are Attacking Targets in Syria Despite the Ceasefire

The ceasefire in Syria is a joke. Turkish military units continue to mass along the border, and militants are pouring across the border to attack targets in northern Syria. The prime minister of Turkey is now openly admitting that his government is supporting the militants that are trying to overthrow the Syrian government, and the Turkish government has also made it abundantly clear that they have no plans to stop shelling the Kurds on the other side of the border. So despite the "ceasefire," the truth is that the threat of World War III breaking out in the Middle East is greater than ever.

At times it is difficult to see the dividing line between the Turkish military and the radical jihadis that are hopping back and forth across the border with the full support of the Turkish government. Over the weekend, militants from Turkey who crossed over into northern Syria were supported by artillery fire from the Turkish military as they attacked a key Kurdish town.

Saudi-led 34-state military coalition ‘ridiculous’: Iran

Iran’s Ambassador to Pakistan Mehdi Honardoost on Friday criticised the Saudi-led 34-state Islamic military coalition formed to combat terrorism in the Muslim world, terming it “ridiculous”.
