My car needs 4 new tires, front an rare brakes, transmission fluid to the tune of $1,438. They just gave me an estimate on the phone and the car should be ready by this evening. Also in a couple of months I will hit the 60,000 mile mark and that is another $600 or so . Happy New Year to me

I'm sure it's time for a new car. Maybe a mini cooper?

Welcome to the club. My husband's car needs a timing belt, water pump, catalytic converter, and 4 new tires. With labor, around $1700. Sucks, doesn't it?

Tell me about it... and labor is about 2/3 of the costs I just hope after this and the 60,000 miles check in a couple of months it will not need another expensive fix for a while!

Cars simultaneously suck and blow.

Our van needed some new tires. Both in the front were bad. Went to the tire shop and got 2 almost new ones that the teens just had to upgrade for $70. They still looked new. It's awesome to buy used. Not sure what the brakes cost...under $50 I'm sure, hubby done an awesome job getting them replaced. I should maybe mention the transmission fluid...
Sorry you're having to deal with this.

I had never heard of used tires until my DH and I started dating. He was from the south, is this a practice that happens elsewhere?

It could be worse. My eldest niece was rear-ended earlier this week. Repair cost is $4K to fix the damages and that's with used parts for the tailgate/hatchback. Fortunately she's ok although nervous about driving right now. She's 17+.
But I'm sorry your car is being expensive right now.

Used Tires?
I have bought them in the past and gotten good deals on gently used ones. But I just put 4 new ones on one vehicle to the tune of $700.
