My husband isn't a big movie guy. I was, until I started dating him. But now, I'm ready to catch up. We've seen a few movies every year, but have been together since '95, so I've missed a lot of movies!
We don't watch horror movies, and have limited tolerance for action movies - so those have to be extraordinary to make the list.
If you were going to make a list of all the movies I MUST see that have been released between 1995 and today, what 10 movies would you put on there?

Pan's Labyrinth, Garden State, Juno, Life is Beautiful, Brokeback Mountain, Up ... I've got to keep thinking. 10 years worth of movies is a lot to remember.

I've seen Juno - loved it. I've seen Up - loved it. I've seen Life is Beautiful - that was really good too.
I'll put the other three on the list.

Wait - I've seen Garden State. I don't really remember it. So, I'll put the other two on the list.

That's good. At least we know we've got similar taste in movies now. I'll post more as I remember then. I watched tons of movies until we had a kid. Since then I haven't seen nearly as many. Oh, I just remembered one. "Capote" with Phillip Seymour-Hoffman.

Ah - under "General" - sheesh - I looked under lifestyle and EE, but I guess not general. Sorry.
Last night we watched District 9. Loved the beginning - loved the set-up. It dipped in the middle, but it popped up there at the end. That was sort of the max of the gore I could take. And the part I didn't like was just the pure "action" piece of it. Yeah, yeah, everyone has a gun and everyone shoots everyone and it goes on for 40 minutes of my life. I get it.

I like scary movies, but not gory movies. I'm more into psychological thrillers. Did you see "The Others" with Nicole Kidman? Scary, but not a horror movie and nothing gross.

I didn't see "The Others" - but I like movies like The Usual Suspects and Memento - is it kinda like that? With a mystery, rather than just gratitous bloody stuff?

It's a ghost story/mystery. There is absolutely no blood or gore at all, and I don't think there was even any bad language. There's a good twist at the end. It reminded me of the classic ghost stories like the original "The Haunting." Lots of suspense, but won't leave you mentally disturbed afterward. It was a really well done movie. Very beautifully shot, good music, good acting. It's a classic in my book.
For lighthearted fare, I'm a fan of "Love, Actually." It's not Oscar material, but it's enjoyable.

The Breakup was NOT funny in the least...actually I walked out of the movie theater and got my money back then tried to watch again on cable and didn't find it funny at all.

I found it hilarious, probably because I've had some of the same fights with BF.

Seriously??? I thought that movie blew!
And I liked The Breakup, although it was hardly "very funny." I thought it was a good story, and I loved how at the end they were actually broken up - instead of some cheesy 'get back together' ending.

Even when Jen was walking around nekid? Yes. But that was physically uncomfortable due to a poor wardrobe choice on my part versus the rest of the movie which was emotionally uncomfortable.
