Every few months I get calls from clients informing me that the IRS just contacted them by e-mail telling them that their "most recent" tax filings contained errors and they wanted to "settle" their "accounts." Be advised..... this is spam..... the same kind of spam that comes when the cousin of the exiled crowned prince of some third world country wants to give you some money.... here is some information on how to address this, if it happens to you..... www.irs.gov/privacy/article/0,,id=179820,00.html

I would have to second the above message. The IRS is very emphatic that it does not contact taxpayers by email.
