For most states the amount in box 16 is the amount earned in that state.
For NY you are required to put the total federal amount into box 16 regardless of where the employee worked.
Is there a similar requirement for MD or DC?
I cannot find the answer and I am tired of googling.

not sure myself, but generally, when I see a client's W-2 with income sourced to MD or DC I only see the MD or DC portion in the state wages portion.....
by the way, DC does not tax non residents..... ever wonder why (that's off topic though)
