yea - that's right! I said it I've seen a lot of the movies and liked them all basically I just finished watching a recent one called Bag of Bones here's why they're bad - most of them are like: we start out sun is shinning, birds chirping and kids playing for about half hour 40 minutes into the movie (if we're lucky) then (FIRST) flash back to probably childhood then back to present for maybe 10 minutes then back to the recent past - but in a dream then wake up in the present then it's night and the trouble builds and now the nightmares and wake up to ghosts / dead people laying next to the person then some yelling and confusion then a flash of the future for a few minutes but the future turns into a dream and we wake up in the past! then to the present - but the present is not our present is changed a little well because it's a dream! LOL OK...wait ...yes we have to seriously pay attention to these / his movies or we'll get lost and stuck in time!! bestsellers.about.com/od/stephenking/a/king_films.htm

I just took another look at the list of his movies I noticed I've only watched them once I do believe we have Cujo and The Shining in our DVD collection I've seen a few times - well more than once: Cats Eye, Creepshow, Creepshow 2, Pet Sematary just frustrated with all the flash backs and forwards and current and alternate world from dreaming

most of his movies haven't been up to the standards of the books. But it's really hard to make a 2 hour movie that gets all the nuances & back story that you get from the books. Carrie, Misery, Cujo, The Mist, Dolores Claiborne & the Shining are some of the best. Stand by Me is done very well, but based off his short story "The Body". Creepshows are also based off his short stories. Pet Semetary was without a doubt the absolute WORST version of book to movie. So bad, I wouldn't even call it a Stephen King movie.
There's still a slim chance his Dark Tower series will be made into 3 movies & a 2 year tv series to fill in the movie gaps.

I love Stephen King novels (mostly the older ones - some of his newer books are a little too "out there")
As far as the movies made from his novels, some have transitioned onto film quite well, depending on the story and the actors chosen for the roles. Some examples that I think that have succeeded on film and stuck fairly close to the books:
"Firestarter" "Needful Things" "Pet Sematary" "It" "Salem's Lot"
And the best ones:
"Carrie" - Sissy Spacek was perfect casting as Carrie "Thinner" "Dolores Claiborn" - Kathy Bates - awesome "Dead Zone" "Misery" - Again, Kathy Bates as well as James Caan - perfect casting "The Green Mile" "Stand By Me" "Rose Red" (TV Miniseries) "The Shining" - Jack Nicholson "The Shawshank Redemption" - Tim Robbins, Morgan Freeman

I was disappointed in Needful Things movie/miniseries because certain people just didn't fit the picture I had of them in my head. So that was more on me, than the movie. I also liked Maximum Overdrive even if it was a tad cheesy. It left an everlasting picture that still comes into mind when a semi rides up behind me on the highway.
The ending of Pet Semetary was why I really disliked the movie overall.

Flash back and forth between reality & dreams or between current times & childhood or between this world & another one.

Misery has got to be one of the best stories out there. I think I like it because it isn't about some odd-ball supernatural thing. It is just about a crazy person. It is so believable, and unbelievable. I liked the movie Christine, but that had this leap of faith into the supernatural world that seems to ruin so much for me. At least once during the movie I snort "as if...this is dumb." But Misery - yeah, there are plenty of whack-a-doodles out there that things like this actually happen. Not often, but it does (or could.)
I think he ran out of ideas when that car ran him over and left him on the side of the road. The irony of that is unsettling. Maybe I should believe more in unknown forces.

Green Mile was good. But still it had that unexplained powers thing. Shawshank is just a story about a couple of friends. A really, really good story about a couple of friends.

I think Shawshank was that prison movie where the guy was getting his ass kicked so badly! I felt horrible for him!! Green Mile - hellz NO! I have no interest in seeing that!

No one mentioned The Stand- very tough to fit into a movie but I liked it. 1408 was good too and Needful Things was a good attempt. Supposedly Cell is on the way- perfect time for it.

Shawshank was a prison movie - and the prisoner was embezzling from the prison.

although I like the Kubrick version of The Shining, it was not very true to the book. Stephen King really dislikes that movie. The mini-series was great. They even had those creepy moving topiary hedges I liked Dolores Claiborne better as a movie. For some reason I had a tough time reading that book. I'd love to see them do something with Gerald's Game.
