I'm new here and have recently found out I among among the approx. 26 million Americans with diabetes.
That number is expected to grow every year.
Is it possible to have a category for diabetic recipes?
Thanks for your consideration.

I don't see why not, beenherebefore. That could be helpful to quite a few folks, I'm sure. Let's try a thread here in this category and see how we do.

beenherebefore--welcome My dad found out last summer that he is also diabetic--first one in the family that I know of. He's had to change his eating and exercise habits. Fortunately, now that he's retired he does all the cooking (mom still works) so he knows exactly what is going into his food. I'd also be interested in recipes I can pass along to him. First, what all are you interested in? For desserts, are you ok with artificial sweeteners or all natural (like stevia) or do you just want to find low sugar stuff? ETA: I just read that diabetics shouldn't have artificial sweeteners, honey, etc because it still raises blood sugars. Is this accurate? I do know that the box for Pure Via (an all natural stevia sweetener) says "safe for diabetics", so guess that one is ok, probably in moderate amounts. Also, what kinds of foods do you like? DS has started eating a lot of seafood lately (I don't like it, but I really want him to start eating healthier when he's young). I'd be more than happy to share some of the things we try out. If you give me ideas here, I'll put specific recipes on the other thread to keep them all in one place.
