I think there are folks here who have recentlyish gotten married - anyone else get super annoyed with the annoying frames and layout of theknot.com? I'm only going there for local vendor recommendations and maybe see if the forum's useful... but damn, what a terribly organized website! I thought it might be a good resource but the aggravation almost isn't worth it... Anyone know of any other decent wedding websites? I'm not one of those omg-obsessed-with-planning-my-wedding!!!!!! chicks, btw. We're getting married in 6 months & are beyond happy that we won't have to sit around & think about it for a year or more!

The forum is pretty good if you have a thick skin. I didn't get much value from the rest of the site.

If money isn't a problem, call Sandals Resorts. They will plan your whole wedding for you.

LOL. We kind of want to elope..... it just means too much to our families though, and our wanting to run away isn't more important than making sure our families don't kill us in our sleep! We are having a nice small wedding (75 or less) and doing it real simple. My parents, bless their hearts, are helping us pay for a lot of it - my grandmother died at Christmas, and everyone insists she would've wanted me to have a beautiful wedding and that she would've helped pay for it anyway (she would have too), which is extremely generous of them. Between my mother and us, we will not have any problems paying for what we want to do and no one will be going into any debt for it! I'll check out the Wedding Channel, thanks! But yeah, ugh, the knot. Suuuuuucks. Want to start punching girls just reading some of the forums.

Sorry about your grandmother cael. I am glad to hear that you are getting the wedding that you want. Vegas was my dream wedding, and we had about 35 come out to celebrate with us. I wouldn't have done it any other way, and I hope you can say the same after all is said and done for you.

OOOH! I am jealous!!! We got married at The Little White Wedding Chapel. They didn't have an Elvis, but told us they could get us one for $150. I am glad we didn't bother, considering the ceremony took all of 10 minutes.

We've thought how fun Vegas would be.... is Star Trek: the experience still there?! We would totally get married there In the end I think we're going to be really happy with what we end up doing we are a few days away from setting a date in stone, probably will be July 10, so we need to get cracking!

I got married in 2004 and I haven't been back since. My sister almost missed the shuttle to the airport so she could go to Star Trek: the experience one last time.

We got engaged in Vegas the week before Valentines Day! So we technically missed each other by 2 weeks.

November should give me enough time to accrue babysitting points with the family.

We dated for 10 years and were never going to get married.....then my biological clock started ticking. So I told him that I wanted kids and gave him a year to think about whether he wanted them too. He proposed 50 weeks later. (I had already started packing my stuff by then ). At least we were both on the same page about everything when we said "I do".

HA! I ended up getting pregnant within a month! So Vegas was our wedding/honeymoon because we never went anywhere else. Oh! Got preggo with #2 four months after having #1. I made my appointment to get fixed at my 6 week follow up.

I used to belong to the WeddingChannel but they turned it into The Knot 2.0. I don't know if it still is but it was plauged with errors and posts would disappear. They chased off all the regulars because the site is for "new brides" only in their opinion. Then it became just as nasty as The Knot because apparently THEIR regulars are more than welcome. ::rolls eyes:: Last I heard the place, especially the message boards have become a dead zone because the Knotties have chased everyone off. The regulars from the WC went here: wedding.conforums.com/index.cgiWe could use some new blood over there.

I find all wedding planning sites, books, shows, etc. to be incredibly annoying, and I had a big old Catholic white wedding with 200 guests.
When I was planning it, I just went to local vendors I've used before and told them to show up and do whatever they wanted, here's my budget. It worked well.
But, I also didn't have centerpieces for the tables, a theme, a real strict color scheme, or anything else like that. I concentrated all my money on the food and booze.

I have found much of it annoying too! Thinking about having to do invitations, pick colors, do centerpieces, and favors, ugh. And a shower?! I know you get stuff, but I'd so much rather not do that (I won't be able to avoid it) I just want to have a nice ceremony in a pretty place, fun reception, good photographer, and look pretty. Don't care so much about everything else, so I'm going to be as simple as I can be with it. DF is on the same page as me luckily.

I figured nobody remembers the centerpieces or the color schemes, or if they do, chances are that I only invited them because they are a relative and I had to and I didnt' really care what they thought. The people that are important to me would remember the food, the booze, and the music.

Exactly my thoughts! I'll probably put a little thought into centerpieces & colors because I'm a visual person & I appreciate prettiness and color and art and stuff, but, I refuse to spend a substantial portion of my life worrying about the perfect centerpieces and colors and stuff. This is one reason I'm happy we only have 6 months to plan the wedding - I don't want to stress about it & waste more time on it than that! I have a friend who got engaged last May - her wedding is in August 2010 insane!

Yes. You should take a shower before your wedding.
Actually, not only do I remember the center pieces from my sister's wedding, I have several of them! She got these clear acrylix boxes, put red "stones" in them, and then put water and floating candles. I don't have the water or floating candles, but I do use them -- one acts as the display stand for my autographed football! (it helps that I have a red wall by my fireplace, so it goes with that)

Yes. You should take a shower before your wedding. Yes, I think I will remember that advice. DF might be upset if I didn't
