If we're lucky, a major conservative movement [hopefully fiscal] and increase in Libertarian thoughts and politics.
Other than Carter V2, it might actually be a good thing in the long run. A young man can dream...

Military expenditures on the table? We can close all of our military bases on foreign soil. The defense department is probably the last budget item I'd look at. I think the military has to be on the table. The perfect compromise would be to simply cut government "across the board" - every department budget - by 1% per year every year for the next 10 years, and thereafter the budget would be frozen until it is balanced. However, while the spending problem is primary, the solution has to include growth; so I would say that the elimination of the income tax and all taxes on savings, investment, and the production of income and a shift to a system that taxes consumption. I also think we need state and local reforms beginning with public employee pension reform and property tax reforms.

Are you referring to cutting the built in structural growth rate of fed budget items... or actually cutting the budget?
