we can get away from 5 gas, by getting out of all overseas military bases and actions, and cutting the military budget by 50%

we can get away from 5 gas, by getting out of all overseas military bases and actions, and cutting the military budget by 50% Cutting the military budget by 50% would reduce the tax load considerably on the average US citizen. This would speed up the economy and increase the demand for oil products including gasoline. This would only drive the price up quicker. A 50% decrease would help reduce the federal budget if you don't mind a possible attack from some rogue (possibly nuclear) country because they feel we can't defend ourselves.

Mid, since the first video is 12 minutes long and doesn't immediately broach the subject of oil prices, you might want to tag the 30 seconds in the video you find makes the most compelling argument.

DOD is one of the sacred cows....
I am ex military as is my father. But we both recognize that we need to change the way the military is built...and what it's main role is now and will beome in the future. We no longer need the arsenal to compete against the soviet bloc.
Yes...we must have a strong military...to deter countries from even considering trying anything funny. We need smart weapons...quick deployment....and the best equipment we can give our ground troops. But we no longer have to have troops deployed in (what 30?) countries around the world.
We can easily slash 30-40% of the military budget...and still keep our troops outfitted with the best stuff. It will piss off a lot of government contractors....but if we are ever seriously going to tackle the budget issues and debt...this is one sacred cow that needs to be carved up....

In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist. - Dwight D. Eisenhower

I listened to this preacher long ago. He has been on the mark as of the past few years now.

Ty Fighter 3, At some point the cost of making renewable fuel will be less then oil sells for . At current production cost butanol can be sold at the pump for $3.50. With huge economy of scale that could be reduced to ?... time will tell but as nuclear power keep getting better with the next generation 4th plant on the drawing boards as a single units system.. energy cost is going to be going down.
Just a thought, Bruce
