For every 10 you buy, only one is just right.
I bought Serta Luxegel pillows-firm support for side sleepers, at Sam's Club yesterday-cheap, two for one deal. I can't describe the pleasure going to bed last night and realizing I finally bought the perfect pillow, and waking up this morning with the same opinion.
As for toothbrushes, money does not guarantee quality. How many of you believe they really study the best brush design for your teeth? I buy this 99cent no name brush from the health food store that cleans my teeth better than those $2-$3 name brands.

I read somewhere that pillows should be replaced every YEAR. Needless to say, I don't do that ~ nor do I know/think it's necessary. But I will say that I am picky about my foam pillows, and when we travel by car, I prefer to take my own pillow.
I'm also one of those people who likes TWO pillows at night, whereas my wonderful DH is a one pillow sort of guy.
I think my toothbrush was more than $3 ... it's one of those battery-operated doohickeys with the replaceable head/brush.

DH and I are both two pillow people. We replace our pillows every few years. I really should get a new one, but I actually really love the one I have now. I'm going to have to search Macy's and see if I can find the exact same pillow. I think it's the best one I've ever had.

I'm a two-pillow girl, and I'm pretty good about replacing them every year because I end up killing them over time. I buy extra firm, but by the time I toss them, they are almost as flat as sheets. as far as toothbrushes, I should have bought stock a couple years ago. I'm currently an Invisalign patient, those clear removable braces. what most people don't know is the trick to getting them to work is that your dentists will add these tooth-colored little "buttons" to the surface of your teeth to make pressure points for the aligners to push on. these little buttons do amazing things, not the least of which is shredding toothbrushes. besides purchasing multiples to have at home, at work, in the purse, and in the car......I've also been buying in bulk because they last a month, tops. fwiw, I like Colgate 360° in soft/compact.

I've been really curious about Invisalign. I had braces when I was young. I wore my retainers for years, but I got sick of them during college and quit wearing them. My teeth have shifted some. I was wondering if Invisalign would get things lined up again. Do you mind if I ask how expensive it is?

not at all. Invisalign is comparable to braces, and qualifies under most dental insurance for orthodontia. so if you have a lifetime cap, this would fall under that. mine were $5k, but my insurance covered $2k. since I had to wait for wisdom teeth extractions, I was able to plan and put the $3k on my FSA that first year.
depending on what you need to do, there's an "express" version (10 aligners) or a "full" version (however many you need). The full version allows for refinement, which is new impressions and a re-start of aligners based on those new impressions. I'm approaching the 3-yr mark, I'm on the full version.

ooh, forgot to mention - the express version is significantly cheaper. I think my office charges $3k for it. Invisalign determines which version you get when they evaluate the initial impressions.

That I like to hear! I'm thinking if I ever decide to do it that I would only need the express since I've had braces once. My teeth are still a lot better than they used to be. There's just some shifting on my bottom teeth that annoys me.

My toothbrush is near $200 and I love it. I have had excellent gum/tooth health for years and I attribute it to the most awesome sonic toothbrushes that actually get your teeth CLEAN.
I guess I am not as picky about pillows. I have a pile of them from Costco & I like them just fine.

I have probably 8 or 9 pillows. I use one or two for my head, one between my knees (ever since I had knee surgery, I have to do this since I sleep on my side) and have the rest strewn about me. With a great variety, I never have to worry about becoming uncomfortable.

I keep seeing those really big "body pillows" ~ has anyone used one? Are they comfy?

Do king-sized pillows fit into standard pillow cases, or do you need king-sized pillow cases?

MM, you need king sized pillow cases. They hang out of standard ones. I prefer feather pillows. My brother occassionally picks up feather beds at auctions in central Ill. I make pillows out of them. They get cleaned or washed as needed & I always use pillow covers anyway. I've also used old down coats/jackets that have gotten tears for my pillows.
With dentures...be sure to use a denture brush! Those others aren't stiff enough to clean them properly & in all the crevices.

King sized pillow cases. I have a king sized bed, so any sheet set I get comes with those anyway, but you can buy a couple of the pillow cases separately.

I have one of those also, and I would say it is worth the money. Our dental bills have gone down and my dental hygenist now compliments me on how healthy my gums are. We have spent a bit getting my husband's teeth up to par, and the electric toothbrush has been a key part of that. I would suggest that if you have any oral hygene problems you discuss an electric toothbrush with your dentist.

I'm all for 99-cent toothbrushes; however, my husband MUST have an Oral-B, which he replaces every six weeks. I use two pillows, dh uses four--three for his head and a knee pillow.

I like flat, old, and beat up pillows. I bought new ones with a credit at Kohl's because I thought they would be better for my allergies but I absolutely hate them and want to squash them into submission. Maybe I'll use them in a few years. I also am curious about getting Invisalign due to shifted teeth since my braces when I was a kid. I think I'll ask about it this year.

I like the artificial down pillows. I have allergies, so down doesn't work for me. I found a brand I like at Bed Bath & Beyond called Indulgence - I highly recommend. I don't replace mine every year - more like 3 years.
My dentist has been hounding me about flossing - I forget, bad me!

Breezy: Are the Indulgence pillows more on the firm side or not and are they down? DH is allergic to down so we have to use down alternative fillings.

dancinmama - they aren't real down, but synthetic down - so they are good for allergy sufferers. They come in a variety of styles & firmness. I like them - I use them for every room in my house. Guests always ask what kind of pillows they are - so I guess they must like them. I buy mine at Bed Bath & Beyond, which has 20% of coupons all the time. (Your a couponer!) Good luck in your search for the perfect pillow!
