With all the different political views expressed on here, it might be interesting to see who some of the favorite political figures are, or which era of politics interest people the most.

For me, as far as an era of interest, there is nothing quite like the present.

No doubt, the greatest political era (in US history anyway) was the last half of the 18th century when this great country won it's independence from English rule, the Declaration of Independence was signed and the US Constitution was ratified.

James Madison = favorite American and all-time political figure
Adam Smith = favorite non-American economic figure, which is still a political role
Favorite era = 1750-1850

I"ll go with FY as well. If it were not for our "Founding Fathers" who were willing to risk everything for a country that was not ruled by the oppressive English government, high taxation and who wanted a country where they had religious and personal freedoms this country would have never happened.

Yea we but had two pretty good presidents in WW2....Franklin Delano Roosevelt and Harry S Truman who was also our president at the start of the Korean War as well..
PBS just had a repeat of the series about Harry S. Truman and I doubt that this country will ever see his like again....Plain spoken, earthy, and not at all impressed with himself but very impressed with the office as President of all of the people and all of the time..
And today we have Barrack Obama who is very impressed with himself and beholden to just his liberal democratic base of constituents.

From a prosperity stand point I liked the post Korean war period to the end of the Johnston era. Business and growth seemed to be the most predictable. being old enough to remember the WW-2 period it was a frantic period, shortages and ration stamps but for the most part nobody complained. It brought in the television era and many other advancements.

Yea but the Woodstock Era (late 60s) with all that "Free Love" wasn't too shabby especially on the West Coast..

Yea but the Woodstock Era (late 60s) with all that "Free Love" wasn't too shabby especially on the West Coast..I am somewhat torn about that era, but mostly, I despise it. Yeah, when I was a pot smoking rock'n rolling teenager in the late seventies I thought the 60's had to be the bees knees (whatever that phrase means!) But upon looking further it was a terrible time. War, riots, strife and political assassinations in the news. Culturally it brought free love, but it also tore down some of our critical moral and ethical standards. In the end I believe many of the supposedly altruistic hippies were really narcissicts, who were just all about themselves. I think you will always have the self serving, but I think the 60's was a time when great strides were made and the public consciousness was raised on many issues. Yes, we paid a price, but progress isn't cheap.

I'm still glad that I was too young to really experience it in all it's technicolor drugged out glory though. As turbulent, painful, and difficult as the decade was, I think good things resulted. Some, that were long over-due.

I listen to XM Radio just about 24/7 and play mostly the hits from the 60s....and then just day dream about those times...San Francisco, Huntington Beach, Redondo Beach, Malibu night life, those were the days....and you could buy a 1962 Corvette for @$4777.00 and fill it with bikini clad honeys in a heat beat. And then upgrade to a 1967 Corvette for just a few thousand more and have 430 HP with a 427 CI sized engine under your front hood...

I on Roosevelt and definitly Truman..he I remember even though a young person, not that young not to remember him. Sorry I missed the PBS show. I do remember a black and white series with truman standing and talking about his Presidency, done after he left office, and he held back nothing, his feelings, criticism of...a great man. Loved to see that found and broadcast again. I do not agree on the Obama thing..but thats ok too. Others, The Kennedys both, in some ways Johnson, take away the war, the rest , what he tried to do...and did Just saw a lecture fom a VA University on C-Span, professor of history to a class, love C-span on Teddy Roosevelt..facinating man, personality. not one on my list but still..what a force ful man and also how stupid as he said as he took office , he would be a one term president that the professor said , he regretted as the words left his mouth. What would have been..who knows.

Well, this (Sirius) idiot is usually on The Highway, Prime Country, Margaritaville, Boneyard, Blue Collar, Mad Dog, Classic Vinyl, Classic Rewind, Raw Dog, Bloomberg, NFL Radio, NASCAR Radio........pretty much anything except for "talk news" and rap. One of these days, I'm going to have to get it hooked up on the bike.

One of these days, I'm going to have to get it hooked up on the bike. I bought mine at "Sams" , they had it in a small boom box for the home and the unit itself could be put in the car..I got it because the big hurricane, we lost our power like 10 days, radio south florida..sucked so much..besides no AC, food the whole magilla, radio here sucked..so next time, i';mready. Only problem is the tape player in the car went flooey and unable to use the insert that goes there anymore, it would be eaten up so can't use it in the car anymore. some one said I could get something else to play through the radio but haven't followed up to check out..miss that but not in the car as much as I was.

What about 2011 years ago? There was a man who changed things on earth so much we still refer to him many times each day often without realizing it and there is a national holiday in our country to celebrate his birthday and one for his resurrection. Can anybody beat that?

If you could time travel a famous person, to the present day, who would you select?
Ben Franklin would be one of my top 50 choices.

100% agree, FY. I used to laugh at Sirius. Now I can't live without it. My old roommate was an OTR and she used to rave about her sirius radio. I believe she got sirius because of stern. I gave her a hard time about paying for radio and she went and bought one for me for xmas a couple years ago...the radio and the year subscription. Commercial free radio is like crack....I'm hooked....but I still don't like stern. I also bought the boom box and I'm listening to it right now in the office. The weird part is that my office is a concrete building and I have no outside windows....yet it comes in clear as a bell. I couldn't pick up squat from inside my house. You can use it wirelessly by programming your car tuner and your receiver to the same channel. The only problem I found is that the blank channel I used here was not blank everywhere and I was unable to find one that never got "stomped on". also, older sirius receivers put out more power. If I passed another car programmed to the same FM station, the older, more powerful unit would also stomp on mine. (XM may differ) So, I ripped my stock stereo out of my Camry and put in an aftermarket stereo with an AUX plug in the front and eliminated the need for the wireless feature.

We just purchased an '05 Tacoma from my Dad and the stock stereo doesn't have an aux button or jack. I have to see if their is a CD Changer connection in the back and if so, get a Y connector for the sirius...either that or rip the whole thing out and replace with a single DIN aftermarket pioneer stereo with an aux input again or something....we'll see. OK PI12....didn't mean to hijack. Back to your OP With all the different political views expressed on here, it might be interesting to see who some of the favorite political figures are, or which era of politics interest people the most.
