...this reminds me of a "obituary: common sense" email from a couple years ago... and, imo, it's sad to think about how even common courtesy is gone when we no longer see connections between us...

When the fear of each other is greater than the fear of outsiders the empire implodes.

This is the same scum bag lawyer Lanny Davis who worked for African dictator and human-rights violator Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo. I don't think he's really in a position to be a role model for civility...

This is the same scum bag lawyer Lanny Davis who worked for African dictator and human-rights violator Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo. I don't think he's really in a position to be a role model for civility... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Well there is no question that Mbasogo is a brutal dictator, just won in "09" another seven year term, naturally a fixed election, and I believe they are finding oil there so it seems the US is looking to reopen/build new the embassy. He has deposited about a 1/2 billion in the Riggs bank in DC{they were fined 16 million for that}, another lobbyist Cassidy is paid $120 thousand a month to represent him/country and Davis is a also a lobbyist for some strange ones , reminds me of the "Duke " in Doonesbury in a way after reading his creds, here they are. ---------------------------------------------------------------- " Attorney and lobbyistDavis has done "decades of work for some of this country’s most powerful lobbying firms," where his work "has stoked growing criticism that Mr. Davis has become a kind of front man for the dark side, willing to take on some of the world’s least noble companies and causes."[7] He started his legal career as an associate at Patton Boggs in 1975 and became a partner in 1978. He served as special counsel to the President from 1996 to 1998, during which time he also was the spokesman for Clinton in issues regarding campaign finance investigations and other legal issues, including President Clinton's impeachment trial. After leaving the White House, Davis returned to Patton Boggs. There he worked as a lobbyist for the nation of Pakistan prior to the attacks of September 11, 2001.[8] In 2003, Davis became a partner in Washington, D.C. office of the law firm Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe. There, he provides counseling to corporations and government contractors on crisis management. He left the firm in late 2009 to join McDermott Will & Emery, but has separated from the firm to open his own company.[citation needed] Davis "specializes in lobbying for controversial corporate and foreign clients, particularly those seeking Democratic representation in Washington."[9] He has "built a client list that now includes coup supporters in Honduras, a dictator in Equatorial Guinea, for-profit colleges accused of exploiting students, and a company that dominates the manufacture of additives for infant formula," as well as an "Ivory Coast strongman whose claims to that country’s presidency have been condemned by the international community and may even set off a civil war."[7] Among his clients are "Ivory Coast leader and flagrant human rights violator Laurent Gbagbo" and "Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, the longtime dictator of oil-rich Equatorial Guinea."[9] The latter representation has earned him criticism from human rights groups, who claim that he "appears to be engaged in little more than a whitewashing exercise designed to rehabilitate the image of the Obiang regime on the international stage."[10] He is a senior advisor and spokesman for the Israel Project, and serves as a lobbyist for the Pakistani government. In 2009, he did "damage control for hawkish Democratic congresswoman Jane Harman over the AIPAC leak story."[11] Davis is currently engaged in lobbying efforts for the Latin American Business Council of Honduras (CEAL) ("the Latin American equivalent of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce"),[11] defending the Honduran military authorities' removal of President Zelaya from power in the 2009 Honduran constitutional crisis,[12] which Davis, who has never practiced law in Honduras and has no expertise in Honduran constitutional law, has argued was constitutional and proper.[13] Davis has appeared in San Jose, Costa Rica, on Thursday, July 9, 2009, with interim president Roberto Micheletti for unsuccessful negotiations mediated by Costa Rican Preseident Oscar Arias. [12] He "portrayed his work for the coup's supporters as all about law and order."[11] Davis is also working with San Diego-based lobbyist Bennett Ratcliff of Vander Ark/Ratcliff, a public relations manager with a close relationship to Hillary Clinton,[14] and "recently launched a new public relations firm called Davis-Block."[10] [edit] Author and commentator In 1999, Davis wrote a memoir of his work in the White House entitled Truth to Tell: Tell It Early, Tell It All, Tell It Yourself: Notes from My White House Education. His most recent book, which appeared in 2006, is entitled Scandal: How "Gotcha" Politics Is Destroying America. The book received praise from politicians and commentators across party lines, including Senators Evan Bayh and Lindsey Graham. Davis has also served as a frequent political commentator on television, radio, and newspapers. He currently writes for The Hill's online Pundits Blog. In 2006, through opinions expressed in the Wall Street Journal (August 8, 2006) and on Fox News, Davis strongly supported longtime friend Joseph Lieberman in his losing bid against Ned Lamont for the Democratic Party nomination for the post of U.S. Senator from Connecticut. He then continued to support Lieberman when he ran and won the General Election as an Independent. In 2008, Davis supported Senator Hillary Clinton in her race for the Democratic nomination for President of the United States, and has appeared on Fox News, CNN, and MSNBC as a surrogate for her. After Clinton conceded, Davis went on to support Barack Obama.[15] In 2008, Davis questioned the United States' response to the conflict between Russia and Georgia and advised present and future US leaders to consider the point of view of the Russian leaders before unilaterally supporting the government of Georgia in the conflict.[16] [edit] CriticismGlenn Greenwald, a lawyer and columnist for Salon, criticized Davis in 2009 for Davis's perceived failure to disclose his clients. Greenwald asserted his clients included dictatorships and opponents of unions and health care reform.[17] Greenwald's claims have been confirmed by other journalists --------------------------------------------------------- Possible this organization didn't have the credentials I thought it might have , from reading what was posted with out checking it out , thus possible why no one signed up for it. They knew it wasn't very important and even though Lieberman had signed up, I found out he is friendly with Davis, and Davis supported him when he was fighting to get the nomination of the Ct Democratic party and then in his successful win as a independent. In a way, it shows how we don't really always know what we are talking about here when we make certain claims, we are novices and not really that qualified to be so strenuous in our advocating some ideas. I admit that, any one else want to join in? No? LoL, didn't think so , thought I would ask anyway, glad to know everything posted here by others, right on.,the truth and nothing but the truth, but will leave this but get rid of the header and article. Good point Ed, not sure about the "scum bag lawyer" designation. He is doing what thousands do in the country, all legal and above board, so "scum bag " is your designation, but these so called "scum bags " move in the highest circles of both political sides and you and I and others here wouldn't even be let in the back door of these places were they mingle, legally.{sigh} PS Not calling Davis a "scum bag", but his story does remind me of the "Duke" in Doonsbury..any one else follow the strip see it too. LOL

Some of this can be attributed to the rise in technology...in no other time have we been both so connected to one another yet so disconnected from each other.
I've seen people surrounded by friends or family and they are talking on a cell phone or texting and ignoring the people within arms reach of themselves.

True but as far as this thread, the Compaq that only a few signed and was being disbanded because of lack of interest, , there may have been more to the lack of participation then first met the eye. The sponsors of. questionable , one at least in the least. The sentiments were fine, as they were as I read them but the instigator of , one of them anyone has a legal but dubious reputation, who and why he represents as a lobbyist. As I said, reminds me of the fictional wheeler and dealer . "Duke "in Doonesbury, and so many of those characters are semi based on actual people, wouldn't be a surprise to me it's the one mentioned here, though can't swear to it , but they seem so smiler, reading the client list, his history. I am afraid my familiarity of African Despots and strong men is also not up to par so had no clue who this one was, I am dated, El Armin rings a bell but now he is dead now, seems there are a lot of them, so best just admit my naiveness and delete and move on, granted head held low as I shlump out of the thread, oh woe , oh woe.

Had to google..didn't have a clue but after reading so true. LOL ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ "Godwin's law (also known as Godwin's Rule of Nazi Analogies or Godwin's Law of Nazi Analogies)[1][2] is a humorous observation made by Mike Godwin in 1989 which has become an Internet adage. It states: "As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches 1."[3][2] In other words, Godwin put forth the hyperbolic observation that, given enough time, in any online discussion—regardless of topic or scope— someone inevitably criticizes some point made in the discussion by comparing it to beliefs held by Hitler and the Nazis.
Godwin's law is often cited in online discussions as a deterrent against the use of arguments in the widespread Reductio ad Hitlerum form. The rule does not make any statement about whether any particular reference or comparison to Adolf Hitler or the Nazis might be appropriate, but only asserts that the likelihood of such a reference or comparison arising increases as the discussion progresses. It is precisely because such a comparison or reference may sometimes be appropriate, Godwin has argued[4] that overuse of Nazi and Hitler comparisons should be avoided, because it robs the valid comparisons of their impact.
Although in one of its early forms Godwin's law referred specifically to Usenet newsgroup discussions,[5] the law is now often applied to any threaded online discussion, such as forums, chat rooms and blog comment threads, and has been invoked for the inappropriate use of Nazi analogies in articles or speeches.[

CNN's John King Apologizes For Guest Using Word "Crosshairs"
I wonder if he's heard of Crossfire?
Crossfire was a current events debate television program that aired from 1982 to 2005 on CNN. Its format was designed to present and challenge the opinions of a politically liberal pundit and a conservative pundit.

"If they bring a knife to the fight, we'll bring a gun" - Barack Hussein Obama
It might also interest readers to know that "campaign" is a term borrowed from the military, and there's usually talk of a politician's "war chest" with respect to the money they have, or will raise to "fight" their "campaign".

hotair.com/archives/2010/10/25/obamas-turnout-pitch-to-latinos-get-out-there-and-punish-your-enemies/More civility from Obama: "If Latinos sit out the election instead of saying, ‘We’re gonna punish our enemies and we’re gonna reward our friends who stand with us on issues that are important to us,’ if they don’t see that kind of upsurge in voting in this election, then I think it’s gonna be harder and that’s why I think it’s so important that people focus on voting on November 2.” Referring specifically to Republicans such as Senator John McCain, who are stressing border security and supporting strict immigration laws like Arizona’s anti-illegal immigration measure, Mr. Obama said, “Those aren’t the kinds of folks who represent our core American values.”
