I went to a dealer I've never been to in order to save a few bucks on a particular repair. They communicate via email and also by phone. When I left my car I took a loaner instead of waiting for it so the service advisor and I mutually agreed I would pick my car the following morning.
So, I got an email in the evening saying my car was ready. The interesting thing is after I picked up my car in the morning about 45 minutes later I get a call from the dealership apparently automated about when I would pick up my car. It was kind of funny, but when it couldn't handle the answer I already have my car I answered with a standard option and hung up.
Anyone else experience customer service that missed the mark?

I know I always perfered to take to the customer for that very reason. The service writers dont like to write anymore than they have to because it takes time. I was in a bad mood one day and got a work ordered that had one line on it. Check engine. So being the ass I an, and to prove a point. I brought the vehicle in the shop, opened the hood, raised it on the lift then took it outside. Closed the work order out and answered the write up. Checked engine, stated engine size and coler, and sercured properly. The managewr was pissed and wanted to write me up until I showed him the work order and asked him what else I was supposed to do. The service writer got the write up.

I took my Subaru into the dealer for a recall notice (sticking valve in gas tank) when I needed to have an oil change. No problems, they did the repair and then sent me on my way.
I get yet another letter from corporate Subaru, informing me of the need for me to get the recall repair done on my vehicle done ASAP. Ummm, I did this 6 months ago, did the dealer not charge it back to Subaru? So I called the dealer mechanic where I had the work done to find out if that had indeed done the work. Apparently they put in the wrong VIN on the repair order, but the recall repair WAS done.
A few months later, I went in for another oil change and had them rotate my tires. Took the car home, then went out to lunch with a coworker. One noticed that I was missing a couple lug nuts from my right front tire. I dropped him off at work and took my car immediately back to Subaru. Turns out, they had only hand tightened the lug nuts and all of them needed to be tightened. The did replace the missing lug nut.
Never went back.....that scared the crap out of me.

Just wanted to say I've enjoyed reading all your stories. Mich, I totally agree I wouldn't go back. Having the wheels fall off one's car while driving is an experience I want to miss.

Rick, please tell me cars don't fall off too often. If they fall off, how damaged do they get?

I'd love to see the mechanic explain that one to the customer!

Oh, I forgot the best part of this.... One Saturday morning, I was reading the paper and there was a notice that the dealership was closed and was being taken over by another car dealership in the city. Huh?
So drove by and sure enough, the place was locked up tighter than a drum. Totally clueless as to what was going on.
When I took my Forester in for a 30K service to my local service, I was able to get the details from the owner of the shop. Turns out that that Subaru dealership was playing fast with the rules. I *think* that it didn't have an impact upon the service that I got there, but that's still niggling in the back of my mind.
I only took my car into the dealer for oil changes, tire rotations and that recall notice, so am hoping that all is well.

As stated in a previous thread - I had a 1962 Corvair Coupe. I needed to go to the shop and have new tires put on the vehicle. Pretty cheap at the time as I recall. The service tech got really huffy with me (19/20 yr old female) when I insisted he hand tightened all of the lugs, do not under any circumstances use the power tool, and I stood where I could watch him perform the work (within shop rules of course). What the guy didn't understand (and I did try to explain to him before he stomped off in a huff) was that an earlier vacation with my parents had us broken down on the side of the road due to over-tightening of the lugs on a similar older vehicle. On the way back from a convention, we were within sight distance of our home town when we starting feeling the car shimmy and shake all over the road. Dad pulled the car over, looked at everything, couldn't find anything wrong (on a quick glance) and took off again assuming it was a bad section of highway. Couple of feet driving on the shoulder, the problem was just as noticable. Dad pulls over again, this time noticing the back passenger wheel cocked out by almost 45 degrees. Pulls the hubcap off to find 3 stems w/lugs on the ground and the 4th stem cracked half way through. Dad deduced the shop had over-tightened the lugs and stressed out the stems as he couldn't get any of the other wheels off once we were finally towed home. I was just trying to avoid the same issue happening with my vehicle if at all possible. The guy just thought I was being a brat - I think....
