I hope the wife was found and the winds are not as bad as expected. Had a not good night's sleep so I need to wake up and get stuff done.

Crap. The hurricane is shifting more East. I've got a friend who could be in the path if that shift continues. Not to mention, if it drifts towards Jacksonville, I know a LOT of people who could be affected by the wind & rain. Even after going cross country, a hurricane can do a lot of damage. Thinking of downed trees, tornadoes, etc.

We are soggy but safe; that eastward shift explains the additional rains this morning. I did get a run in early (pools were closed, as are schools and most rec facilities and local government offices) and out the one working trap, and ... WE CAUGHT THE MOTHER KITTY!!!! She is at the shelter for spay/neuter. I need a second trap that works (I have a second trap, but the hook thingy to hold the trap door open is missing). The earliest the kittens can go in would be next Monday, so I will have to try and trap them over the weekend. But we got the mother out of the reproductive cycle. Amen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Will keep an eye on the weather, possibly go to the grocery store later on.

I just woke up from a TERRIBLE dream. I still feel so upset and scared. It's weird.
I believe wife was found, although I didn't see, or speak to her. Things are a mess. I don't know what is going to happen. Or if they can work through this.
I will stay out of it, to the best of my ability. What a mess.
So much drama.

OMG, the whole relationship thing sounds like a hot mess. And you can only offer what you can, when you are asked. Unfortunately, adults have to deal with these things, though the wife's disappearance does throw an entirely different wrench into this. Did she get lost due to inebriation or anger? Not that either is really acceptable, but it's just a dark thing.

It's a hot mess.

NancysSummerSip, is the ground soggy where you're at? My old neighborhood got a ton of rain before this hurricane even came to be. Conditions are right that if the winds come thru there, a lot of trees are going to go down, with the soft ground and take the power down with it. I'm glad I'm out, but am worried about my friends there, especially the ones with health conditions who could be seriously harmed trying to live without electricity.

We get enough breaks in the rain for it to absorb. So far. I hear Tallahassee has already lost power in places.

Ouch! They're reporting now that Helene has a "close eye" 35 miles wide, which means she's powering up. I was reading last night that they were anticipating she'd hit 4 or 5 before she was done, but this is one huge storm.

The amount of rain coming with the storm is going to be wicked.

Yes, just made a Cat 4 storm. My brother is in good shape now, but this could change as it gets closer to landfall. My drunk of a SIL is probably quaffing from a gallon jug of wine in her condo in St Pete.

Dang. I want a Wendy's Frosty. And I just saw a commercial for them. They're on sale for $1.
If I had an assigned parking space, I'd get dressed and go buy one. There's a Wendy's about a mile and a half from where I live.
I'll think about it.

I got a text from my son in law, last night, saying my DGDs will both be home from school today, from 9-2. Do I want to come spend time with them, at their house?
So I'm going to be at their house, babysitting, today.
It's been a long time since I've seen them. I will enjoy seeing them again. I think we're going to make tuna sandwiches together. Although I don't think they will eat tuna sandwiches. Haha.
I heard DD2 got her Escalade back with a new engine, day before yesterday.

Good Afternoon Kids! I had hoped to sleep in a bit, but the guys working on the road here got going around 7 am. It is VERY noisy around here. I finally heard from my friend who lives near Cape Coral. She only had minor damage, so that's a good thing. I haven't heard a peep from my former neighborhood. I'd heard that power outages are all over, so I'm assuming either that's the problem, or maybe they're just busy cleaning up broken branches, etc., from their properties.

When I was a teenager and worked in fast food, we called those tiny cups, convenience cups. I agree, those are too small!

My day with my grands went well. No issues. No complaints.
The temp at 3:45pm is 87°. It's nice, if you're not in the direct sunlight.

I wonder if the praying mantis survived and managed to fly away. Today while taking out recyclables, I walked really close to one in the parking lot near the sidewalk. Freaked me out at first. I hope it moved somewhere safer, as it gave me a shock when I realized what was standing there near me.

The weather was practically perfect this evening, so DS & I took a walk right after dinner. The days are getting shorter quickly. Sunset is already before 7 pm, although we do have some daylight after that time. I didn't even get attacked by mosquitoes, which was strange, although there were some gnats to deal with.

No, but where my brother is on the west coast of FL was pretty much spared the worst -- he is an hour north of Tampa and the storm came ashore north of there. He is inland a good bit. My niece is in Orlando; they are fine. A big worry now is conditions in Asheville, where we will be in three weeks' time. Wedding venue did just fine; I will be calling my hotel tomorrow to confirm and get an update on conditions. The father of the bride is calling the two restaurants we have booked for dinners - they are in downtown Asheville and that's very possibly an issue.

Good Morning Kids! I was frankly shocked about the news of flooding in Asheville, a place we stayed at on our last road trip to Florida. (We tried a new route--not taking it again--if you get caught in heavy rain driving through the mountains you can hardly see where you're going.) I know a pastor who lives there, but based on the pictures I've seen online I'm not going to bother him right now, as there is too much going on.) I found out the 2 counties in Georgia closest to where we used to live have about 1/2 the population living without power, so that's horrible to think about. The freakiest picture I've seen so far is in Valdosta, GA, which is over 100 miles from the ocean. The winds took down a BRICK building. That's just unbelievable. I expect the numbers of people who have died to increase based on the picture of damage I've seen. And then, there are the people who make a living farming who've been hurt. When Hurricane Michael came through, I saw the damage in person, and that was quite humbling. For example, I'm expecting to hear of damage to pecan trees, and buildings where chickens are raised. It's just a big bunch of crazy in the South when a hurricane comes through.

NancysSummerSip , a number of highways have been washed out. I'm not sure how to find out how to get to your destination safely, but I wish the couple getting married the very best. This is new information I just got from a Facebook post: Just got this text from a friend in the Asheville area: All the repair trucks etc can’t get in because 40 is closed at old fort Mtn from a mudslide and at the TN border it totally washed out and 26 from TN is flooded. Asheville area is like a land island right now. It could be a LONG time. Conserve what you have. The ingles warehouse flooded so there goes the food too.

We would be taking 95 and crossing to 26 at Columbia SC. Our hotel is south of downtown Asheville, and as of now is open.
