Good Morning all. Time for me to get busy, instead of just wasting the day away. I would like to go for a swim but if I do that the yard work won't get done. Lap swimming is from 10-11 which really screws up the whole day. Today begins another stretch of 90 degree weather so I should get at the outside work before it gets too hot.

Morning all. A bit of holiday weekend brunch... Keeping it light, since everyone has picnics and parties planned I am sure.

Hello and gracious good Saturday to all of you. My, I have some stuff to tell you. My house was hit my lightning Monday. The bolt hit the ground between the generator and the house and entered through the landline wiring under my home office. Blew the plate right off the wall, and sprayed plastic, wiring and screws all over the room. I was sitting there, but I am fine. Knocked out the landline for good (wires too burned to repair, and no tech knows how to wire for it anyway), so they are coming out next week to put the house phone on VOIP. Cheaper and more reliable; we have our smart phones to use meanwhile. Cost will be the standard service call charge.
The bolt blew out the thermostat and the control panel on the A/C and the generator, respectively, though both continued to work; you just could not regulate the A/C and the generator's automated system does not work. A/C now has a new thermostat (free), and a control panel for the generator will be here by Thursday (covered by warranty). So it was, shall we say, an enlightening week. I gave myself a gift today (because I had to work through all of this hot mess): trail running shoes. Yep, I am taking up a new sub-hobby (I say sub-hobby because I already run; trail running is a specialty). My that was a shocking week. I am glad you and your house came through it with just relatively minor repairs and inconveniences. Once my brother took up trail running there was no looking back. He no longer enters the 5K, 10K, triathlon sprints etc. it is all about the trail running. The only event he now does is a trail run in a nearby state park known for its waterfalls. I see your brother's point of view. Tried it out this morning. Curiously addictive. I planned a 20-minute tryout this morning and wound up out there for an hour.

Good Afternoon Kids! I did online church this morning, but had to visit one of the churches I'd gotten to know "down South", as my church here was having problems with their internet service.
They want to have in-person church beginning next week, but I honestly don't know if I'll be going back just yet. The timing seems a bit off, with the kids starting school this Thursday, and the fact that some folks probably met up in groups during the Labor Day Weekend. I'd rather hang back a bit, & see if more people get sick first. Decisions, decisions...

busymom I'm with you. Hang back a little longer. We're probably going to see a heckuva surge in the next 10 days-two weeks. If you haven't already got your flu shot, get one!

Hi all - It has been a nice relaxing day on my end. I am planning on having Brats for dinner. I might go get one of those frozen lasagnas and throw it in the oven also? We have plenty of other stuff in the fridge - but I just have a taste for it? Hope all is going well with your Sunday!

The weather today is actually better than the original forecast. The sun has actually come out of hiding. But, I ran the grill yesterday, with the plan of cooking enough meat for the entire weekend. Tonight, we'll eat the hot dogs. Last night it was brats & burgers.

Tonight, we'll eat the hot dogs. Last night it was brats & burgers. We had big stuffed green peppers last night. We have left overs also. Also all kinds of salads in the fridge. Plenty of stuff. I think i just have the urge to go to the Grocery store?

I did a bike ride this morning and fixed a light breakfast. The news about our phone line is good -- it is repaired, but the phones themselves are toast, so we are responsible for those. I am letting DH pick whatever he wants to replace them.
I am trying out Murray's chicken burgers for dinner tonight.

Good Morning Kids! I see NancysSummerSip has been hard at work in the kitchen again. The plan here for dinner tonight is pulled pork.

<< cough, cough, cough >> Holy smokes batman. They told us that the wind would change direction and smoke into our area at it has. This morning was beautiful blue skies and this evening it is a windy gray mess. However the weather is circulating right now it is pulling up the smoke from the California wildfires dragging it across central Oregon, adding some more smoke from our own wildfires and them dumping it into the valley. It is also very windy, although not as windy as in the Portland area. We've basically been told don't do anything to cause a spark outdoors, no fires, watch your chains if you are towing a vehicle, don't park on dry grass etc.

Very weird weather it is kind of spooky with all the wind and smoke. I guess DSIL took DGD with him out to the fields to go move a gun. It really is this thing that makes a loud noise like a gunshot at prescribed times to scare the birds out of the grass fields. Geese especially think it is Thanksgiving when they seed the fields. Anyway I guess DGD was crying and yelling at Dada that she wanted to go home to Mama and brother. DSIL said she was so worked up that he thought she was going to have a panic attack. We think it was because it is just so weird outside right now. They are home now, life is good, and they are having a dish of ice cream before bedtime.

Well, that pulled pork dinner has been postponed until tomorrow. DH surprised us by bringing home some pizza tonight.
I got the first migraine I've had in quite awhile today. I'm not sure what the trigger is. It could be the rainstorm that moved in. But, usually I suffer with them during the hottest part of Summer, when the weather is changing quickly. Oh well. I'm past the worst of it now.

Things are getting scary around here. They are now evacuating several small towns East of where I live. The evacuations are starting about a 20 minute drive from my house and extend for a good 40-60 miles up the highway.

Good Morning Kids! I'm sorry to report my allergies are back. Never had to deal with them "down South", but here, they arrive around the time you first turn on the furnace in the Fall, & don't leave until the first frost. Yes, it's gotten cold early here, so the furnace is already on. Pass the kleenix. Hope the frost gets here early. Good grief, Sharon! I didn't realize you had any wildfires near you. Stay safe, even if you have to "get out of Dodge".

It is so bad in this area right now. There are at least 2 if not 5 little towns in the canyon that probably no longer exist, burned to the ground by wildfire. The video is from one of those little towns. I have driven through that town 100's if not 1000's of times in my lifetime.
My brother is still on level 2 evacuation, get set to evacuate. They have brought a couple of their vehicles down here already and the trailer is hitched up and ready to go. They are just waiting, watching, and watering.
One of my parents vacation properties if probably burned over based on what we have been hearing second hand. In my area it is so smokey it has started to seep into the house. I'm getting a headache from the smoke smell. Ash is falling and the sky varies from brown, to yellow, and occasionally red.

Good grief Sharon ! Might you need to evacuate too? And, what about your daughter & her family? I think we should be fine unless we have a complete fire apocalypse. I put together a "go" pile to throw in my SUV when it appeared one hurricane might get close to us. I was VERY glad I did, when I got word that they were going to have my neighborhood evacuate the next morning. DH & I threw everything in, and I was on the road, in the middle of the night LONG before any of my neighbors left. Which was great, because I didn't have any competition on the highway. If it looks like the fire "might" be moving your direction, I recommend doing the same. That way you don't forget anything, like legal paperwork, that would be a PITA to replace if the house is gone when you get back.

Ok, so THAT would freak me out a bit. And they're saying there's no chance you'll have to evacuate?

My sister in law posted a photo at their place taken approximately the same time. It looks like midnight at their place, only all red. Needless to say I wasn't that productive today. It is about a 20 minute drive from my place to my brothers. They are in the foothills while I am down in the valley.

Good Afternoon Kids! It is depressing when you look outside. It's been cloudy, with a "weepy" type of rain most of the day. If I didn't have things to get done, I would've gone back to bed. Waiting for the rain to quit. It's supposed to be done after dinner, so I might go out & get my errands done then.

Please send any and all rain our way, we desperately need it, the state is on fire. We are supposed to maybe get some rain on Tuesday. If we do it won't be much and certainly not enough.

Good Morning Kids! We're sunny here this morning. Sharon, I would gladly send rain your direction. I was looking at the fire maps, and shocked at how many wildfires there are right now between Washington and California.

It's raining here for the 4th straight day. It's supposed to rain for two more days.
It's chilly, too. The temperature in the house is almost down to where the heat will kick on. I did use the heater in the car this morning.

We're setting record low temps here. We actually got frost last night. Normally we don't get frost until October. Even the weatherman said mother nature seems to be doing things a month early. Global warming, perhaps? It doesn't just make some areas hotter, it'll also make other areas colder than normal.
