Chiver, Are you familiar with the Chicken Bone in Framingham? Great live music in a sort of dive bar setting. I don't go often because I seem to forget that I'm not young enough to do all that drinking and dancing. As a general rule, I socialize with my core group. We are five couples who have known each other for 20+ years. We vacation together in Maine for a week in the summer and get together usually at least once a month the rest of the year. We do potlucks and beverages. That's just the formal get togethers. Our lives are really intertwined. Between us we have 11 kids ranging in age from 8-20 and they've all been raised more or less together. Some are friends, some can't stand each other. Some are actually blood relations, some are not. It's never boring. These days the get togethers seem to get bigger and bigger since now that the kids are older, they all seem to bring their friends along.

yep, I know the Chicken Bone Saloon. well, the wings anyway. I remember when they were take-out only over in the basement of Ebenezer's at the train station. ( I hope that doesn't date me... ) those were my old stomping grounds! I've never been inside the new (I know, not really new) location though, didn't know they did live music. the dive bars I meant in my post were in Boston/Cambridge/Somerville. I do head over to Fireflys from time to time. they have music on the weekends, they have a few pool tables, and you can get the full restaurant menu too. are you in metrowest too, malarky?

Chiver, Ebenezers is long since gone but I put in my time there as well. Chicken Bone still has the best wings, ever. I live right on their delivery line so I have friends who order there, then pick them up at my house. The whole neighborhood, as well as the Chicken Bone has been cleaned up but I still wouldn't go there alone at night. And I have never in my life set foot in the Happy Swallow.

yup, it's been a few things since E's, what is it now? my parents still live around there, but I'm not out that way all that often. as far as the W.Natick train station is from the town line, I grew up about as far in the other direction into Natick. I remember hearing sirens as a kid, just knowing exactly where they were heading. I'm sure you know what I'm talking about.....
haha, and the Happy Swallow was one of those places my Dad used to warn me about when we'd drive by. lol....

We tend to have friends over for football games or Nascar races if hubby has the weekend off. Cook a brisket all morning, lots of food out, all the kids playing football in the yard, the guys standing around drinking beer.
My hubby works nights, so I also will have my brother's & their SO's over to play trivia pursuit usually once a month while he's working. Will cook fingerfoods to munch on, make homemade ice cream for sundaes or bake cookies. That's always a lot of fun and can run on into the wee hours of the morning (we're night owls anyway).

It seems like a lot of us are the "hang out with friends, eating and drinking" types.

My BFF of over 25 years lives in another state. When she & I want to get together, we plan for a concert. She can afford more easily to come to Georgia, so we'll check concert schedules of someone/band we want to see and plan her trip around that. She came here last year for a week and we went to see Bon Jovi. Whenever I travel to Texas to visit family, I always work in at least 2 days to stay with her and catch up on everything and run around to see old friends.

It seems like a lot of us are the "hang out with friends, eating and drinking" types. That's what I was just thinking too. But I rarely do that with my family any more. I used to but things have changed. Many divorces and break ups on there side and the tone really changed through the years. They are unhappy and bitter people now. But I have awesome friends and I really like DH's family! ETA: Ken - back atcha and Malarky - you are next and then MT.

wow once again the boards know what's on my mind! too bad I missed when this first posted. I miss having friends. But time has past and now only have one friend left. Yes I live with my chick but she is the one that's spoiled and very anti-social! my brother couldn't make it to the concert last Saturday so I asked all my associates (4 women) 3 didn't reply and 1 said she had plans. what-ever. I didn't want to go with my 1 friend cause he's a knuckle head and I knew I was better off going alone. Also Saturday tickets for Janet and Prince went on sale. That I would take my GF. But also tickets for the mixed martial arts Fedor vs. Big Foot Silva went on sale. I want to purchase tickets to all three BUT the MMA I have no one to go with any more. really don't want to go alone. oh well guess it's money saved.

I put lipstick, a wig, and draw eyes on my hand and talk to it. Sometimes I pretend it's Jennifer Lopez.
