The WW2 battleship Iowa is on its way to Los Angeles to become a museum ship for the US Navy.
If you have never been aboard a battleship then this would be a good opportunity when you are in Los Angeles.
The Navy wanted to berth the USS Iowa in San Francisco but the city supervisors rebuffed that idea
In the meantime with all of the poltices involved the Iowa will be at Richmond CA for a few weeks getting herself shipshape thanx to donations from citizens of this country and the effort by the Pacific Battleship Center in LA who are mostly old Marine and Navy Veterans...this group raised @10 $Million to refurbish her..

I looked up the history of the Iowa. What a history it is, too. From being part of keeping the German monster battloeship Tirpitz out of the war to carrying Roosevelt to the Casablanca Conference where the strategy for pursuing the war in Europe was mapped out to the Battle of the Phillippine Sea, to Okinawa and the surrender ceremonies in Tokyo Bay to the Inchon landings in Korea, with a 45 degree roll during a typhoon for good measure.
What a hisstory. Thanks for the post.
