Anyone use Chrome? Is it any good? I use Chrome. I like it a lot. Initially, not every website supported it, but it's getting better. If ever I want to visit a site that doesn't support Chrome, I resort to Firefox. HAVE SOME SELF RESPECT! DON'T USE INTERNET EXPLORER!!!

I have to use IE at work--big corporations don't generally give peons a choice in such matters. I use IE at home too, because I'm too lazy to bother getting and learning something else. Actually, I could probably learn it fine. So I guess I'm just too lazy to load it.

My former employer didn't want us using Firefox, either...this time around, we justified blowing away our systems to install Win7 x64 when we installed 8 more gigs of RAM...which means we didn't install the "Gold" build, LOL. I need both of them when I test my .NET apps anyways. The thing that frustrates the hell out of me is that Exploder doesn't strictly conform to the W3C standards, so I am constantly having to make exceptions for it...

Yeah, ok you lost me there, lol. I know a little more than the average user I think, but just a little. My thing seems to be more with spreadsheets and logic. At least computer/mathematical logic, not so much human logic. But I think that's an oxymoron anyway.

I built the nice scrolling stock marquee over on MT. Tested it in FF, Opera. All fine. Test it standalone in IE. It works! "Wow!" I say. "That's a pleasant surprise." I put it into the board header. Still works A-OK in FF and Opera. I give it no more thought. "Virgil," says diverdown, "it looks like a dog's breakfast." "What?" I exclaim. Over to MT I head in IE. Sure enough: dog's breakfast. IE has decided that if there are tables on a webpage, it doesn't feel like honouring "position:fixed" in CSS. And why should it. All those tables and... and... <tr>'s and <td>'s. Why, how could a browser possibly not lose track of all the style sheet info. Nosir, EE knows better. It plunks the works down right in the middle of the flow layout. And why honour "visibility:hidden"? Shouldn't all DOM elements be visible as a matter of principle? Or "white-space: nowrap;"? And DENY the whitespace it's chance to wrap? White spaces should too be able to rap (wrap), declares IE! Thus, viewers are treated to the lurching, jittering, blinking, squashed, totally unreadable trash heap of a DOM that remains after all style information has been successfully sanitized. Thank you, Internet Explorer! You've driven yet another web developer completely insane.

Wow, I got the last three sentences... but I'm sure you can do it! And if you can't, who needs that crap anyway?

"Ticker quotes not visible in Internet Explorer. Please switch to a better browser."
Thanks Virgil. They were very annoying.

Ahh Virg, your last rant is a gem. I have code snippets that, when I look back on them, were obviously written (and commented) by a guy (me) whose Cheerios were pissed in.

Sadly, I completely understood that rant.
I had our departmental website looking beautiful in Firefox, Chrome, and even on mobile devices. Never could get it to look right in IE - and I was webmistress for 3 years. I don't have Virgil skills though. Fortunately, none of the other faculty used IE, so I didn't have to hear about it; my replacement has made a muddle of what I had done, so I assume it is still broken.

Our clients are primarily MSFT-based. So guess what, I'm stuck with supporting craptastic browsers.

My DD has been telling me and telling me to stop using IE.
So Firefox is on my computer, I got your message...I will stop using IE at home, but at work I leave that up to our systems person.

I'm not a fan of IE, but I'm surprised IE by itself can make Virgil insane. Now we know. "Thank you, Internet Explorer! You've driven yet another web developer completely insane."

We use IE at work solely because our programs were created on that platform. Apparently it going to take a lot of [techie talk mumbo jumbo] to do something or other to allow us to have an alternate web browser. It took over a year of reprogramming and testing our exam platforms just to upgrade to IE 8. We were on IE 5 or something ridiculously old.
