Wild game trumps grocery meats because there are not additions like water especially if the hunter processes their own meat.
Steph - you can check the regulations regarding game meat on your state's fish and wild life page. The DH might just want the sticks or jerky or to know what he is eating is fresh.
In a very cold freezer, game meats and fish will last for years. I consider game meat the choicest.
My DH has spent years teaching me skills to hunt. Anytime some one asks me how to acquire the skill, I tell them to save time and aggravation, start with hunter education and professional firearm or archery training.
If you are going on Virgil's CITES protected species uncia hunt, even if you think you are a great shot, take a hunter firearms course to get polished up.
ETA: spell check.

Me too. I do go with hubby once or twice a year, and hang out with him when he brings something home.
He is happy doing the hunting, and even happier with me doing the cooking. ;D

Iggy, I will check it out. I do a lot of "on the fly" cooking, but I have a lot of tried and true.

I didn't take anything in archery, but today is the first day of rifle in PA and I took this at 8:24 this morning on our property about 150 yards from my house. I have never seen a buck so big before, and I still can't believe I shot it!
