Any xray techs here?

I was looking at an xray of my foot. Most of the xray is "lit up." The film almost seems to emanate light from it. The part of the foot I hurt, though, toes and just beyond toes, has a dark shadow across it. Was my foot too big for the xray or was it just not centered well?
