You'll be happy to know that after hearing how much $ you have invested in your toolbox, I didn't even blink when DH found a nice upright box on Craigslist and then mentioned that oh, it's $20K. Right now he has a few tools, but not many - a decent Craftsman ratchet set and a small box of wrenches and some other things that aren't coming to mind at the moment. Enough to do some minor things, at least - he's replaced the exhaust system and radiator in my car and taken apart his motorcycle. Say you're starting out - is there any particular order in which to buy tools? What things do you ABSOLUTELY need right off the bat? What brands do you recommend? (Snap On is out-of-this-world expensive so DH has been looking at Craftsman Pro). Is it best to start out with some cheap basic tools and then upgrade once you start making money, or should you go top-of-the-line right off the bat? FIL got super lucky and picked up a huge set of Snap On tools at an estate sale for pennies on the dollar. I'm not counting on a deal like that, but DH has been scouting the ads...
