False etymology A popular belief is that the word shit originated as an acronym for "Ship High In Transit", referring to the apparent need to stow manure well above the water line when transporting it by ship. This has been shown to be a myth

Once I was at my brother's house and instead of saying, "sh@$" I said, "crap" because he has two little kids. I was scolded and told I couldn't say, "crap" in front of his kids because it was a bad word. So I replied, "well I was going to say sh#$ but figured crap was better." He told me that I couldn't say either word in front of his kids. I told him to Fuck off. Seriously. HELL yea!! LOL

They were so WEIRD about saying ANYTHING remotely negative... She got mad because I said "I have to pee" in front of her 3 month old baby!! They wanted me to use the word "tinkle" So saying crap was DEFINITELY out of the question

I sometimes say crap and sometime sh!t. I depends on where I am, who I'm around and the severity of the situation. DH and I are going to really have to start to watch our language at home now that DD is getting to the age where she's going to start to talk. It's going to be tough because both of us work in environments where the language is pretty rough.

My son picked up "Uh oh, Shit!" from his dad It wasn't real clear so I just didn't get too worked up about it and any time he would say it it was mostly about something that was broken, so I'd ask him "Uh oh, fix it?"--it took about two or three days but I got it converted before my parents heard it...
