I have never understood why DH says crap all the time but gets upset of I say sh*t. A lot of people use crap rather than the other. Why is one acceptable and not the other? It is the same sh*t, different name!

Once I was at my brother's house and instead of saying, "sh@$" I said, "crap" because he has two little kids. I was scolded and told I couldn't say, "crap" in front of his kids because it was a bad word. So I replied, "well I was going to say sh#$ but figured crap was better." He told me that I couldn't say either word in front of his kids.
I told him to Fu-- off. Seriously.

DH and I had a discussion last night if it's better for our 3yo ds to say bottom vs butt. I think at 3 he needs to stick with bottom, dh took the alternative!

Me too , not told off in so many words but understood like a "Daaaad", from daughter , with eyes rolling or a look from son in law in front of grand kids..{no didn't tell them to F>O.} so learned to watch my self...even now I will like catch my self , almost choke to death as I stop mid sentence and cough out a "durn it"..now they all laugh..even get a hi five some times..kids get a kick out of it, bit older, 14/11. ;D P.S I like cr%p better then the #2 word too, especially on the boards here..neater, cleaner..more to the point rather then as antaganistic..like 'your ideas are full of .. rather then your ideas are ....

I say crap A LOT. It was considered a "dirty word" growing up, but we probably all started using it in the early teen years anyway. I reserve "shit" for when I'm around adults, but still usually use "crap."
We weren't allowed to use "butt" either, so I kind of had to LOL @ Rose's situation. When kids are little I it's cute when they use "tush/tushie," "rear end", "hienie" or "bum". I was never a fan of "bottom"--don't know why.

When I was in middle school, I would say a lot of made up words as replacements for swearing. I was using "sheesh" in place of the other "sh" word. The teacher misheard me and reprimanded in front of everyone, she made a really nasty remark about how my mom was raising me. It really pissed me off. After that I started using the real curses, might as well if I was getting blamed for it anyways.

A private talk, understanding how any one, but especially younsters , do not want public chastisement , thus your response, 'oh yeah, take this you ^%$#@ , in your face, very natural, and understood, ;D

If there's little kids around, I'll say fubar or kung-fu. (This reminds me of the Friends episode where Ross's kid heard Rachel(?) say crap and then kept repeating it & she couldn't get him to stop.

well some people call the toilet "the crapper" and that's because of its creator named Thomas CrapperThomas Crapper (baptised 28 September 1836 – died 27 January 1910) was a plumber who founded Thomas Crapper & Co. in London. Contrary to widespread misconceptions, Crapper did not invent the flush toilet. He did, however, do much to increase the popularity of the toilet, and developed some important related inventions, such as the ballcock. He was noted for the quality of his products and received several Royal Warrants. pic en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Thomas_Crapper.jpgThomas Crapper Born Baptised 28 September 1836 Waterside, Thorne, Yorkshire, England Died 27 January 1910 (aged 73) Anerley, Bromley, England, United Kingdom Occupation industrialist, plumber Spouse Maria Green (1837–1902)[citation needed] Parents Charles Crapper (father)

Etymology of Sh!t The word is likely derived from Old English, having the nouns scite (dung, attested only in place names) and scitte (diarrhoea), and the verb sc¨©tan (to defecate, attested only in besc¨©tan, to cover with excrement); eventually it morphed into Middle English sch¨©tte (excrement), schyt (diarrhoea) and shiten (to defecate), and it is virtually certain that it was used in some form by preliterate Germanic tribes at the time of the Roman Empire. The word may be further traced to Proto-Germanic *skit-, and ultimately to Proto-Indo-European *skheid-. The word has several cognates in modern Germanic languages, such as German Scheisse, Dutch schijt, Swedish skit, Icelandic sk¨ªtur, Norwegian skitt etc. Ancient Greek had 'skor' (gen. 'skatos' hence 'scato-'), from Proto-Indo-European *sker-, which is likely unrelated
