I was speaking to this person who has never succeeded financially in this world and he was talking about his 26 year old kid and how well he was doing. He graduated from a good college, got a great job out of college, and was in a good relationship.
He then started going off about why his life sucked and how his kid got all the breaks and he wished that he was him. I was kind of astonished at this attitude since I thought it would be all goodwill and happiness. Have you seen any bitter parents who are green with envy at their children's fortune versus loving it unconditionally?

Personally, I'm jealous of DD who happens to be wearing my old body. Of course, if I had taken better care of mine in the past couple of years people would be commenting on how much we look alike rather than how she looks just like I used to. In fairly recent memory. What a loser to be jealous of your own kid....

That is my mom. To people she talks to randomly like neighbors or parents of old friends when I was a kid I'm the greatest thing since sliced bread. But amongst the family and my DH and my MIL, and my ex DH she can't hide it. They always tell me "Your mom is SO jealous of you!" I feel so sorry for her because it affects her life and our relationship as I don't care to be around her.

I am never jealous of my children - people get to order them around all day. That would suck.
I am, however, really jealous of my cat.

I am not envious of my kids, I am really proud of everything they have accomplished considering their life obstacles.

My ex-in-laws were always jealous. We bought a house, we had a credit card, we bought a car with cash, etc. Yabbut, we both had jobs--they lived off the goober-mint and had a brand new two bedroom apartment, a newer car and got to do whatever they wanted all day long. I'm not sure why they were jealous.

my mother is like the father in the original post. She is a financial trainwreck on top of never having a successful career (she FINALLY got a job when I was 16 years ol). Fortunately, she and her second husband have a decent monthly income yet are still inches from bankruptcy. She is very jealous of everything I have, yet also takes credit for my success (which of course pisses me off as she deserves none).
But, she is good to my children so I try to not let it get to me...until it does and then I explode on her and we start the cycle over again.

I'm jealous that my 5 year old can eat whatever he wants and literally has a washboard stomach. That's how my 12 year old is...I take it back, I AM jealous of her. Of course, the 6 hours a week she spends at gymnastics probably helps...ok, I take back my jealousy. I don't want to sweat that much

Yes, but you have to be jealous of the fact that your daughter's Buddha belly is adorable, and makes your wife want to kiss it and give it raspberries.

Jealous? Nope. I'm proud of my kids. They're great people in spite of me.

My mother is jealous of me for lots of reasons, most of which boil down to me being comfortable in my own skin, making my own decisions and taking responsibility for them, and generally being happy with my life. She's also got a deep misogynistic bent; she automatically puts herself in the "least-important-person" position, and she tries to put me there too. I don't like that much.
It's pretty ugly, I don't enjoy being around her.

I think a lot of us would like to have the life we have provided our children. I know when I look at my DD's overwhelming amount of pretty clothing and the body/looks to go with it, I wish it was me again. But the downside is she is very unhappy with her dad and I loved mine and have great memories of him. I wouldn't trade my dad for her dad for ANYTHING.

Keep in mind she still has to go though that hell of all hells, middle school. Middle school is little more than a holding pen for young juvenile delinquents so they don't kill the elementary school kids, but don't get killed by the high schoolers. Unfortunately the good kids get thrown in there too. Welcome to Thunderdome.

Well my baby is still a baby, but I hope and pray that she has a better life than we do when she grows up. Don't get me wrong, DH and I have a nice life. We are certainly not rich and we have a very modest house, but we're comfortable and have what we need. I'm happy with our life. Just the same, I would be so happy if my daughter made more money and was more comfortable and was happier. I can't imagine any parent being jealous of their child like that.

I am so jealous. I have yet to find anything that does not look good on that kid. Some how she managed to inherit all the attractive traits of DH and myself and leave the bad ones behind. Boo!

I have to admit that I was jealous of my oldest son after they had the first child. It slept all night long from day one & NEVER cried. He was the child from HELL & we were lucky if we got 3 hours of sleep before he woke us up. I can remember driving around from 1 to 3 AM a lot of nights just trying to get him to sleep. Yes it was hell & yes I was jealous of him......... Then came my grandson. Paybacks are a bitch. He's what they call all boy & has the ability to destroy 2 things in 2 different rooms at the same time. Oh & he needed to eat every 2 & a half hours 24/7. I'm not jealous anymore...Life it sweet.
