What?: Between now and tomorrow 3:00 AM EST, various features on the board will be absent or will be behaving wonkily.

Why?: I am swapping out our many existing script files for newer, smaller, faster, and more cross-compatible versions. The new scripts will have bugs in them (they always do). I have chosen tonight to be the night when I do the conversion and initial debugging.

Why Now?: We've recently added several hacks, to the point where our pages are sitting on 3,000+ lines of user code. A while back, we crossed the "acceptable" overhead for client-side scripting. I have slowly converted our scripts to bring us back to an acceptable level of processing overhead.

What Do I Do?: If you use Firefox, Chrome, Opera, Safari, IE 9 or later, or any Mozilla-based browser: nothing.

If you use IE 8, you should not have any problems, but (as is the case currently) if you attempt to use either the VMoonbeam or VUncia skin, they will crash your poorly-programmed web browser. Upgrade to IE 9+ immediately.

If you use IE 7 or less, your browser will not be able to support most of the hacks. But... it never did anyway. May I point out that IE 7 and IE 6 are now considered officially obsolete by the W3C (web standards council). Meaning: if you are still using these browsers, you are driving a horse and buggy down the Autobahn. They are slow. They are dangerous. Your computer is infested with a dozen spambots spewing Viagra ads from your Internet account. We have now reached the point where any sane individual cannot use "I don't know how." as an excuse to avoid upgrading.

What If I Find Something Not Working?: Report it to me in this thread, but only after 3:00 AM EST on Tuesday the 27th.

Did Your Changes Cause...?:

• ...my computer to crash? No.
• ...my virus checker to alert me about a "huge, earth-shattering threat to my PC that has been safely neutralized by the best virus checker on Earth (please renew)"? This is your virus checker false-positiving on new code. My condolences.
• ...my computer to start doing <action>? If the action doesn't specifically pertain to notmsnmoney.com, the answer is "no".
• ...my account details to change? No.
• ...my venereal disease? No. That was Rick.

Also, as a side note: the Snow Leopard Conservancy is apparently a finalist in a BBC charity contest desperately looking for public votes.

I've also noticed the non-existent "preview" option, quite frankly it's bitten me in the arse a couple times already tonight. also, some of the VSmileys aren't working correctly right now - not sure if it's related to whatever you're doing or not. I've deleted the posts I've made tonight that have been affected, but don't know what long-term effects there are to whatever machinations are going on behind the scenes.

Well, the Spell Check button's sitting where the Post Reply button normally is, so I've hit it a couple of times in error strictly by force of habit of putting my mouse pointer in that location.

OK. I've got most of the bugs worked out. Still pending:

• Lean n' Mean mode is still causing IE to choke. Use classic mode until I get it sorted out.
• Deleting a post will not remove the "Delete Post" and "Modify Post" options.
• Site not tested in Chrome, although it should be OK.

I've used "cachebreakers" to force all browsers to load new the new scripts rather than using the old ones. Even so, it might be best if all users hit the "Refresh" button at least once while on NMSNM. Hitting "Refresh" (rather than just visiting a page) forces most browsers to refresh all cached objects.

Please report any problems/bugs/regressions—other than those listed above—here.

For those with dumping issues, have you refreshed your page yet? I had that problem this morning but the issue resolved after I refreshed per Virgil's instructions.
