I believe the loss/gain is calculated on a first in - first out basis.

Just found out WMT is going to be paying me an additional 8.9% this year. That'll work.

Driftr, Bet you're glad you bought some EXC today... Hope you were paying more attention to the Constellation fiasco than I was. Just figured out they've dumped the dividend on EXC about 28%. Was wondering why this special dividend seemed to have shown up. Then went out and saw the next quarter will be 28% less than prior. So IMO they're making us whole for this first quarter, but I expect the the .3793 dividend per share paid in September won't have an additional .14575 payment ahead of it.

PG dividend up from .525 to .562 = 7%. Every little bit helps...

I didn't get that from the literature they sent, but I have to say that the explaination on the dividend was confusing as hell. It seemed that they were paying out the same dividend but dividing it between the two companies on a percentage basis. But then again, it would explain the weakness in the price more so that the low price of nat gas. Oh well.....the UAN I picked up is paying 8.75%......

We'll see. I'm not dumping what I've got, but I'm not expecting what I have will pay that full .525 after this quarter. I hope I end up being wrong.

Q - Something for you to look at below and think about regarding T. I'm going to hold the VZ I have because it's such a small % of the portfolio and I don't see Denninger hinting at a slashed dividend. He is also, let's just call it 'ahead of his time' on many of his predictions. market-ticker.org/akcs-www?post=204883

Frank - I'm sure glad neither one of us was into Sprint the way we like our T & VZ.

DD raised theirs too. .41 to .43 = 4.9%. That'll keep us ahead of inflation. :-)

Keep in mind T generates more than half it's dough from non cellular businesses. At some point though, saturation has to occur in that market. Jeez, people can't have a bowel movement without a cell phone these days.....

COP spin-off of Phillips happened today. I hadn't realized I was going to be getting a half a share of PSX for each share of COP. Saw COP take a header this morning and figured it out. Scared the heck out of me for a minute there though.

INTC dividend up to 22.5 cents from 21. That'll keep them ahead of inflation for a while. :-)

Just found out the PTY I hold in my IRA raised the dividend from .115 to .13. Nice 13% raise there.

I don't know, i just can't get excited when companies announce dividend raises as a percentage of their current dividend. I mean i really don't care if they raise a $0.01 dividend 100% on a $100 / share stock. (fake example) I mean really, if you want to impress me tell me how much you are raising yield based on your stocks current price. Oh wait, that would most likely impress no one.

Agreed it wouldn't help one decide whether or not to purchase a stock. The dividend increase percentage is important for me because I'm planning for our retirement based on a certain amount of income coming in each quarter. If it is given that the income generation across the group of stocks I purchased was going to be adequate once retirement came, then as long as the average dividend payouts rise at least as fast as inflation, we're on track. So for me, that % dividend increase is quite useful.

What is going on reference EXC? Look up around post 68. I haven't been following the details, but I bet it has to do with the Constellation deal.

Hoping the markets will muddle along the next few days until I complete by Q2 updates Friday after the close. Need to ID where to put all this cash that's accumulated. Starting to feel like we're due for a rally and want to get the last couple quarters worth of dividend cash sitting in our IRAs and brokerage account back to work. Not 100% I'll get it working next Monday, but once I start having these thoughts I usually act pretty quick. No idea which stock the money will go into, but likely one that goes ex div in early-mid July.

Waiting a bit longer to do my research and buy anything. Too busy this week to do anything other than throw a dart at a board, and I don't want to do that this time.
Spain 10 year back over 7%. Things may get 'interesting' this summer.

Added EXC and PPL to my dividend stocks two weeks ago and looking for some more ideas.
Not really comfortable with doing this, but money market rates of .20 leave me little choice.
Ben may save the country, but the middle class will soon be history.

Ben may save the country, but the middle class will soon be history. Post #17 has the list of things my wife and I own in our IRAs and brokerage account. If you're looking for new ideas I like all of the top 22 except you probably wouldn't want PGP or DEX unless you're in the mood for risk. EXC has been performing quite poorly as well. My next round of buying which is long overdue will include increases in: wife's IRA: MON - Just missed Ex Div so really no rush on this one. my IRA: MCD - last ExDiv was 5/31, so I am going to wait a bit, but likely buy before mid-August. our brokerage: INTC - last Ex Div was 5/3 so I'll probably pick this up by end of July.

DRIFTR Lot of confusion about what EXC dividend will be and that is probably hurting price, but it is up $1.84 a share since I bought it.

My guess is that the confusion is only with those of us on the retail side and that the institutional folks already understand the impact the Chesapeake merger is going to have and decided to bail out ASAP. Hope I'm proven wrong.
