Where in the grocery store would I find Seitan (or even TVP)? Is it in a cold case? In a box on a shelf? In a carton? I'd like to try seitan as I'm getting comfy with using Tofu, but I'm not sure which section it might be in - and please don't ask me to ask a store employee for help... I've tried that it just doesn't work. I had to find Applesauce and Tofu on my own in the 5 trillion square foot store. Is this something a Trader Joe's would carry? Or should I venture back into the somewhat scary (I'm NOT kidding - it's scary in not a nice way) local "Health Food Store"?

Really, I have no clue, I had to look up what it was... It looks like it depends on how/where it is made and what it will be used for. Some is canned, some looks like they'd put it with meat. But, I did find directions on how to make your own if that would be better? vegetarian.about.com/od/cookingtipstools/ss/HowToSeitan.htm Looks really easy to make with easy to find ingredients. (I'm a meat eater so I doubt I'll try it, but hope it looks like something you can use)

I can find it at Wegmans sometimes in their "nature" foods area; I'd assume Whole Foods is a good shot as well. Friends of mine make it, though I have yet to try myself. Seitan "cheeseteaks" are so yummy yummy! I know they use the seitan recipe from Post Punk Kitchen. www.theppk.com/2009/11/homemade-seitan/

Wholefoods has it, or if you want to order online you can order it here www.veganessentials.com/ They ship it in a cold bag (I believe).

If you can make it to a truly "large" supermarket you can probably find it in either 'natural' foods or the produce section. That's where my Kroger carries it.
I'm still trying to make my own but the seasoning is still not right.
