I'm paying more for groceries. I'm paying more for gasoline. I'm paying more for insurance premiums. I'm paying more for cable. I'm paying more for sewer, water, trash, electricity/gas. I'm paying more for vet care.
Oh, and my sales tax went up. And my state income tax went up. And my state gasline tax went up. And my state vehicle licensing fee went up.

My auto insurance premium skyrocketed this renewal and not a damn thing changed. I have to recalculate the increase, but it was in the range of 14-15%.

But Mr. MTL, Mr. investor-boob and some other clown over on MSN spent days telling me and others that inflation is exactly what the trustworthy federal government tells us it is, around 2.8%. Are you sure of your findings?

I think retailers have been preparing for this for months. The package is just as big but the contents is smaller and the price is higher. I often wonder what kind of math the government uses to come up with the numbers they do from inflation to unemployement. None of it matches what I see out in the real world.

Are you sure of your findings? Dearest Dalton McGuinty Burns, III, Esq.: I am as sure of my findings as I am that the aforementioned parties are yucking it up with their Federal Reserve Notes in this "deflationary" environment.

IL residents are about to see a 66% to 79% increase in the state income tax. Taxes, by the way, are NOT included in the CPI, nor are state "fees".

Food and energy are often left out of CPI, I don't know why, those are two things everybody has to have. And we get double screwed on oil, demand is rising and since it is currently priced to the dollar as the dollar falls the price of oil rises, faster than demand might seem to dictate.

Actually most CPI figures include food and energy. Its the way they manipulate the numbers where the problem lies. The esteemed Mr. fiscan (later as fiscana) has figured out a couple of tricks they must be using and has posted them on MSN. Maybe you can dig them up.

do they count increases in health premiums? ours increased 100% om January 1st....a $1,000 per month increase. Maybe we need to relax some city regs on farm animals inside city limits..Milk is currently higher than a gallon of fuel....maybe reinstitute a barter system?

Many times inflation increases lag. I was expecting prices to "shoot" up a while back when gas prices hit all time highs. Higher gas prices raise transportation costs for almost everything (including the cost of heating & cooling). I am actually surprised that they waited this long before increasing costs. My guess would be that nobody wanted to be first but when they started to increase, everybody jumped on the band wagon.
