I'm thinking about adding Disney to my Portfolio - Why? Because my kids love it. Any thoughts?

Really? No, I wasn't aware of that. But maybe for a discount... Isn't Michael Esiner gone? I thought he was the one that was controversal?

Wife is itching for me to put her IRA $$$ to work. Not concerned with the potential drop I see this summer. That said, I have a few areas I plan to put her where there are a couple options and I'm wondering which of these ya'll prefer. Reasons why would be helpful.
First up on the questions list: XOM or CVX? Leaning towards CVX because the yield is 3% rather than 2.3%.

XOM is having that Oil Spill problem out by Yellowstone that they intially claimed only affected 10 miles and now are admitting it affects a much larger area.
That being said it could be a good long term play. It doesn't seem to be having much of an effect on stock price.

Picked up some PGP & DEX for her today. Used about 10% of her IRA balance for each of them. Also got her some DVY with about 33% of her balance. Looking to round her out with INTC, DUK, GE, and maybe CVX or XOM.

Since DVY already has Cheveron you might want to reconsider it.
XOM looks good to me.

Or in my planning, very end of P3/beginning of P1. A timeframe that was going to be missing some cash flow for us.

CVX or COP
Either dividend is better than XOM, and the river spill could cause a problem with pricing

COP will work. Gonna throw a little CSCO and MON into the mix as well.
So remaining 57% to be split pretty evenly amongst: INTC CSCO MON COP DUK GE
I realize the yields on MON&CSCO are pathetic, but I have a feeling that like PM, MCD, and WMT, as much as I dislike MON, they will endure. And the CSCO is a tech play to go with the INTC.
I might bail on the DUK and pick up a couple of those from the utilities list that V posted a ways back. I know Bruce really digs DUK though.

COP has a good yield. As far as I'm concerned you can't go wrong with the Gas stocks. No ones going to quit buying it anytime soon and they are almost Monopolies. Very few players left!
Do you still have your BP stock?

Do you still have your BP stock? Yes. Last time I updated my excel worksheet (5/31) it was 4.3% of the total held in my Brokerage & IRA accounts. Much smaller % when you factor in our Treasury Direct Holdings, my 401(k), my wife's 401(k), and now her IRA.

100 Highest Dividend Yielding Stocks
Here is the list of 100 highest yielding dividend stocks in the market. Be aware that you should not buy stocks just based on their dividend yield, be sure to take in to account the safety of the dividend, the company's dividend payout ratio, examine the company's balance sheet for current assets versus current liabilities (and its overall cash position) among other factors.

From Seeking Alpha: Dividends are a critical part of an investor's annualized returns. High dividend yield stocks have a strong history of outperforming the S&P 500. This happens usually because a high dividend yield arises from a mature, highly profitable company that is able to pay out earnings to shareholders.
However, this is not always the case. High yields may also be caused by the decline in stock price of a distressed company or the collapse of economic fundamentals within its industry. Exemplified by the dividend reduction and crash of World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) in the past month, some stocks of fundamentally weak companies have deceptively high dividends that can lure an investor who does not do his or her homework.
Below I have listed four companies that pay out dividends higher than their earnings per share and/or are at risk of dividend cuts. Dividend cuts usually also coincide with a decrease in stock price and earnings, so watch out, or consider shorting these stocks before buying them.
Blue Square Israel Ltd. (BSI) - Blue Square is a grocery store chain in Israel that resembles Wal-Mart (WMT) by virtue of also selling housewares. Last year the stock paid out a $3.41 (35% yield) dividend while the company only earned 41 cents per share. This payout was debt financed to attract investors and the company is unlikely to offer a similar yield in the future. With earnings declining the past five years and its location in a geopolitically unstable region (Israel may be relatively safe, but investors' perception is what matters), I recommend staying away from this stock. The McClatchy Company (MNI) - The McClatchy Company is the third largest newspaper company in the United States and pays out a 12.39% dividend yield. However, the newspaper industry has been dying since the advent of the internet as advertisement revenue has plummeted over the past ten years. Also, most of its newspapers are in small markets (the McClatchy paper with the largest media market is the Miami Herald), and like its competitors, MNI has largely failed to combat the effects of the internet on journalism. Earnings are down 42% over the past year alone and if the payout ratio holds, the dividend will decline with it shortly.
Horizon Lines Inc (HRZ) - Horizon Lines is a shipping and logistics company that provides shipping services from the continental United States to Hawaii, Alaska, Guam, Puerto Rico, and Micronesia. It pays an 11% dividend yield despite losing more money per share than the company is currently worth (-2.19 EPS vs. $1.82 share price). The debt load for the company is astronomical with a debt to equity ratio of 85.03. The company will most likely not be able to pay this back and may fall into bankruptcy or at least cut the dividend.
Pitney Bowes (PBI) Unlike some of the other stocks mentioned, Pitney Bowes has a growing dividend that is lower than its earnings. However, the company suffers from the buggywhip syndrome. The widespread use of e-mail and the ability to print stamps directly from one's computer have eliminated the use of many of PBI's services. The dividend growth rate also has considerably slowed down since 2000. Earnings are down 27% this year and are expected to decline by at least 4% per year the next five years. This may jeopardize Pitney Bowes' ability to pay out its dividend in the future.
Other companies with dividend amounts significantly higher than earnings per share:
Otelco Inc. (OTT) Qualstar Corp (QBAK) Frontier Communications Corporation (FTR)

Ha! I'm still holding the 'free' shares of FTR I got when VZ spun off a part of their land-line business last year.
I've got a couple on that top 100 list. FSC & NMM. I think WHX would qualify too and I didn't see them. Must be because they're a royalty trust?

BSI is currently has a yield of around 46% !
Keep them for a couple of years then them!
Get pass the top 5 on the list and they probably are not that bad of Investments. I know of at least three that In-Houston had in his portfolio.

Thanks for posting the "list". The huge number of financials was somewhat of a surprise and double digit dividends always scare me a little but lots of food for thought. I thought there would be a better representation from the energy sector.

I agree - Just like buying Junk Bonds - Is the risk worth the potential reward? Do your homework - but don't dismiss them all. I only own one on the list - Teekay Tankers which hasn't preformed very well. Some of these are funds though and the risk is spread out so there is less risk involved.
Also I have never done this but have considered Short Term Plays to - buy - then to take the Dividend and Run in an IRA account.
Anyone every tried this?

Picked up CSCO for my wife's IRA today. Tried to get GE & INTC too, but neither got down where I had my limits. Maybe I'll get lucky and get them at even cheaper prices tomorrow. :-)
Looks like those three, DUK, MON, & COP will be all for now. Trying to talk myself into some MFST, but I am struggling with them. They just seem so...old-school. Maybe CAT instead? I'd pick a defense stock, but I have a feeling defense is about to get whacked with the budget stick. Hard.
