I didn't know what to title this thread. My FIL has always been in good health. Old, but still able to get around, etc.. Back about 6-7 months ago he had cataract surgery. Both eyes done 2 separate visits. About a month later, he said he got food poisoning. He lost a lot of weight, some needed, some not. Then he started having a problem going to the bathroom (BMs). All of a sudden, his doctor puts him on oxygen 24 hours a day because he can't breathe and he has a really bad cough. His blood work came back normal. Chest x-rays came back normal. Any ideas? We are at a loss as to where to turn next.

Did he start any new prescriptions? Maybe his symptoms are side-effects of some drug that he started back then or perhaps drugs interacting with each other?

no, he didn't so much as take a vitamin. no smoking, no drinking, no hookers, etc... i mean this literally happened within 48 hours. no paint or new carpet, nothing.

You haven't said how old your FIL is, happy, but it might be a good idea for him to get a cardiac workup. Is he able to eat without discomfort? Does he have a good appetite? Is his breathing difficulty associated with exercise, or is he short of breath at rest?

Congestive heart failure-he's drowning. I don't recommend a hooker.

In addition to the cardiac workup, CAT, and a full medical history- have them do a stool sample to check for blood in the stool and possibly do a colonoscopy- particularly if he has not had one or had one recently. Has he had his gall bladder out? When I had my gall blader attacks- I thought someone was putting a knife through my ribs (making it difficult to breathe) and I had BM problems. I fully agree with everyone else's advice.
And KARMA to you. Your FIL is very lucky to have you. HUGS.
