I haven't, and I was hopeful - 3 weeks from today, i'll be on a cruise. I'd like to drop a couple pounds just to feel a little less puffy. something caught my eye though - The results are fast. “You get good results in the first phase especially,” adds Slayton. During the first 17 days, dieters can lose up to 15 pounds by eating a restrictive diet of 1,200 calories a day. Seeing results so fast makes for some serious motivation to stick with it. um, I usually only eat 1200 calories a day. maybe that's my problem?

I heard about it, but I don't know that much about it though. It seems like a fad diet to me.

When I was a kid, I remember my parents doing something called the rotation diet, which limited calorie intact to 600 per day.

Seeing results so fast makes for some serious motivation to stick with it. um, I usually only eat 1200 calories a day. maybe that's my problem? chiver...that 17 days is all water weight. Just like South Beach diet... 12 pounds in first 2 weeks. Just don't eat any carbs or any sugars. People who are on those crazy 600 calorie diets do more harm to their body than good. Friend of mine, well.. actually someone I know kinda good...went on 500 a day "diet". He also was working out everyday. Lost tons of WEIGHT. The problem is, he lost WEIGHT, not fat..he looked sick and tired. Lost tons of muscle in process. But hey! He looked skinny. My coworker is skinny too...150 lbs.. with 27% BF...do the math. It's not healthy. You have 30 days to your trip? Try to get your hands on Insanity workout. There is no shortcuts. Eat right and excercise. Period. All these crazy diets do more harm to people. Mostly it's really overweight people that are looking for that magic diet or magic pill to make them skinny and fit overnight. Besides, studies show that most people on diets like that gain their weight back plus more. These are simply not sustainable diets. Ughh...but hey.. there will be people making money on this stuff and suckers are buying into it.

Have you actually done Insanity? I saw the infomercial the other day and was intrigued. It looks kinda fun.

I've done Insanity. It isn't significantly different from every other aerobics video I've done since good ol' Jane Fonda and the invention of the VCR. It does have a bunch of guys in it, and there aren't any girly dance steps - so it is cool. Push ups and stuff, but still - just a lot of jumping around your living room. Good if you are into that kind of thing.

Yes, I did Insanity and also p90x. Both are great programs if you want to cut. Both programs are geared towards getting cut and toned. P90x is little bit on a slower side than Insanity. I wouldn't really compare it to Jane Fonda workouts though lol..besides Insanity is not aerobics or teach girls how to dance. All the "jumping" you do is plyometrics. Big difference.
Dark, if you didn't try it, give P90x a shot. I know you are trying to get your core and strenght up from what I read before. p90x would be great program. One hour per day, with exception of Yoga, which is hour and a half. I seen great results from it. Ray Lewis from Ravens did it before 2010 season. He did two rounds of p90x.
thyme, what kind of program are you into?

Yeah, it's all about commitment. It's really great program though. You could just go home instead of going to the gym and pop in p90x dvd and get crackin'!
If you like to workout in a gym, you can get P90X. Couple rounds (2 weeks) of it and you will get the hang of the routine and you can do it in a gym. Friend of mine did it like that. Worked out great for him.

What are your goals Miss?
Did anyone ever suggest HIIT to you? which is Hight Intensity Interval Training? If you are pressed for time, it could take you 15-20 minutes with HIIT instead of 50-60 minutes in moderate tempo. But then again, everyone is different and some people like doing moderate tempo cardio. I usually switch it up, but I do my cardio in the morning so I just bust out quick 15-17 minutes HIIT session.

I beg to differ. From what I remember about Jane Fonda - there was some "dancing" type moves - but a lot of running with grapevines and such where you moved back and forth - but with Insanity, you do the running in place, and the football stance thing, and the frog jump, the basketball jump and the globe jump - which is just running, moving side to side and jumping around. I also remember a LOT of floor work - like sit ups and stuff - with Jane Fonda. I will say there aren't any sit-ups in Insanity, but you do the thing with the tri-ceps and stuff. I'm not saying it is exactly the same. I'm just saying if you hated aerobics in the 80's, I don't think you will love Insanity. It is a lot of running and jumping in place, and a lot of stretching and some floor work.
You never leave a 3 foot square in your living room. At least at the gym you go to different stations.

Not every program works for everyone. If Insanity didn't work for you, then it wasn't for you. I found it to be pretty intense, plyo workout. It suppose to make you do EXPLOSIVE moves. Not aerobics and dancing in one place.
Sure there is. It's actually pretty intense abs workout.
What is your program like? What do you like to do?

Hey, can you talk a little more about HIIT. I have about 40 pounds to lose (long, sad story ) and it seems it doesn't matter if I eat a lot or a little, exercise or not, I can't seem to get it moving. I have some friends (plus DD) that are doing insanity, but I need to start slower. I used to be in great shape, but I think age, different lifestyle now that kids are gone and boredome have done me in. If I could move to a warm climate I think I would fair so much better, because I absolutelly cannot stand cold weather. Never have, never will. However, that's just not a possibility anytime soon, if ever. I do walk (with a little bit of jog) on the treadmill, and eliptical here and there. I used to lift weights, and that worked great, but the gym at work can get overrun with the fellas, and they don't like a girl working on them. Thanks!

Dial in your diet. What is your diet like? How much do you weight and what's your height?
Basically, HIIT is this: You go balls out for lets say 45 seconds and then cool off (slow down a little) for 30 seconds. Repeat. Do this for 15 minutes.

I read the book. It's rehashed stuff, but in a different format. Also it's just long enough to re-set your taste buds.
