I can do it!!!! ;D I just went to the gym and did 45m on the treadmill - 30 of those were running! I walked 5 minutes to warm up, ran for 20 straight, walked 5 again, ran 10, and walked 5 to cool down. Seriously, a month ago I would NOT have been able to do it. A month ago I could barely run 5 minutes straight without getting super winded.
I think I need new, real running shoes though. Realized my sneakers are just walking shoes, and while they're OK, I think I could get something supportive because my feet & ankles hurt. Any suggestions?

I know - I was kidding and I'm super proud of you! I don't know if I'll ever be to that point, simply because I had knee surgery 2 years ago, but I can't wait to try. Plus, having boulders for a chest doesn't exactly lend well to running....if you know what I mean.

Oy. Well, I don't have the chest issue to worry about... lol. But my knees have been complaining and I'm trying to be careful with them. I hope your knees allow for it! ;D

Arch - would you recommend going somewhere where I could actually get fitted for them? (don't running shoe stores do that?) Or is it not worth it & it's easy enough to just get some myself at Marshall's or something?

Or is it not worth it & it's easy enough to just get some myself at Marshall's or something? Depends how much running you are going to be doing and how much pain it is causing you. I personally don't do a lot of running (I'm getting into it again, but we'll see) and I don't have a lot of pain. I have always just bought running shoes that I liked and they worked just fine. This passed time I went to a NB store and they had me stand on a pad and do they recommended a shoe. It is fine, but doesn't seem any better than a sneaker I would have bought otherwise. If you have a lot of calf, shin, foot, knee or back pain it would be helpful to get help, though.

Great job!!! I'm jealous.
DH is a runner and really loves the shoes he got (I don't remember the brand). He went to one of those places that videos your gait as you run on a treadmill. If you think you might have knee/ankle issues it might be worth it to get fitted for a good shoe.

Congrats! Isn't it amazing how fast your body will conform? I used to run, I'm to lazy now. I do miss it and those toned thighs also.

YAY, CAEL!!!!! running shoes - I always just bought a good brand from TJ Maxx or Marshall's. Now that I've been running several times a week, I invested in Reebok RunTones. Love 'em. I can't tell that much difference in the toning when I run, but I can really feel the difference when I walk in them. And they are super light weight. NQTY - double bag 'em! That's what I do (wear TWO running bras)

Cael-please get fitted for running shoes. Different ones for different ankles. Unless you know what yours do (pronate, suppinate) have a professional help you out the first time.

I think I will get fitted for shoes. I've been running a few more times since and my ankles (and everything else) haven't hurt as much, but there's still some pain. There's a great running store in my town I may check out soon... I'm up to about 5mph without dying too! ;D

Take a look through Runners World, either online or in magazine form. They frequently run articles about which shoes are best for neutral, overpronation, flat feet, high arches, etc., etc.
