Please don't hate me for this, but I have the opposite problem of most posters here; I need to gain a few pounds.
Due to stress, I'm having a great deal of difficulty maintaining my weight (160-165, 5' 9" tall). I get hungry, but just a few bites and I feel like I ate a double quarter pounder with large fries.
I obviously need to increase my calories, as I don't want to lose any more weight. What is the "worst" food I can eat, in respect to calories per serving size?

I don't hate you. my body works that way when I am not being a lazy ass, actually. try adding avocado slices to your sandwiches. it goes very well with turkey and pepperjack cheese. it's a high-fat food, for a veggie, but it's all healthy fats. as opposed to downing a bag of chips or something.

Maybe you should get a checkup with your doctor to find out if there's anything wrong with you. I don't think' it's the food that's the problem.

Azphx, you're correct. I know I need to go to the doctor and get put on an anti-depressant. Until I can afford to do that, I need to boost my calorie intake.
Chiver, good suggestion but I hate avacadoes. But it did make me think of pistachios, I can munch on them throughout the day!

MD - I have a very fast metabolism and I have to eat high calorie foods on occasion. Pizza, fried chicken, Rubens, (having one tonight), cheese burgers etc. work for me. And my cholesterol is in pretty good shape because I don't do it all the time.
I love avacadoes!

I don't know of any miracle foods but basically full fat versions of stuff. I get in moods where nothing sounds good to me to eat. Usually its bc I'm in a funk over eating the same old same old. I have to eat or I will find myself on the floor so I find grazing works for me. Something about doing away with that must have meal now mindset helps.

Try cutting out the stress in your life. Stress can create a lot of medical issues for one if they are stressed out. Ben & Jerry's Ice cream isn't bad, or some Ensure drinks, but you being at 5'9 and at about 165lbs, you are pretty much around the body weight you should be at.

"...as I don't want to lose any more weight".
How much weight have you lost and in what timeframe?
You could try some high calorie shakes- add peanut butter or protein powder to your fruit smoothies. GNC sells several varieties. One brand of whey protein will instantly add 1000 calories to your shake. I don't like to eat when I'm stressed either and exercise or getting outside more is the only way for me to overcome it and regain my appetite. It also gives your mind a chance to work through some stuff without being in front of a TV or monitor.
If you're 165 and 5'9", your current BMI is 24.4 which puts you at just barely a normal weight (18.5—24.9 is normal), so adding bad stuff to your diet is probably not the solution or you'll end up fat and depressed. According to the BMI calculators, a normal weight range for your height is from 125 to 169 pounds.

What about good old chocolate; lots of them? They are fattening and anti-depressants at the same time.

Try mass gainers. 800 calories a glass is easy to drink.

Don't forget peanut butter. It's packed with calories, and protein. Even if you just grab a table spoon and dig in once or twice a day, it will help you add calories without having to consume tons of food. If you want a real boost, find some peanut butter fudge ice cream and force yourself to eat some everyday. You could even mix in peanut butter with a chocolate protein shake. If you couldn't tell. I love the stuff (possibly a little too much).

According to Dr. Nick on the Simpsons: Instead of making sandwiches with bread, use pop tarts. Instead of chewing gum, chew bacon.

<<How much weight have you lost and in what timeframe?>>
I had porked up to 210 when I took up karate about two and a half years ago. The exercise dropped me down to 175. I haven't attended karate since October, and I'm still losing weight. I don't care what the BMI charts say, if I get any thinner I will look like a death camp victim. Thanks for the protein powder suggestions, those are doable.

Depending up on your goal, the easiest way I've found to add calories to stuff is to add oil to everything. Many oils are flavorless and just a tablespoon can add 120 calories. My 4yo dd is considered "failure to thrive" and I'm always trying to add calories to her food. There are also a lot of products out there for chemo patients etc that also had high caloric counts in very small portions.

Mad Dog, don't add fats and oils. Too much is not going to give you anything but problems. Stick to Tractors or my advice.
ETA: Skinny, this is not about your post as kids are much more able to utilize fats and indeed I agree with you that they are good for them, much more so than adults.

Pig - yes my advice is probably slanted toward "medically necessary calories" vs workout/general health calories. Thanks for the clarification as I certainly don't want to give OP the wrong advice!

I second the advice about seeing a doctor to rule out any conditions that could cause you to lose weight (other than depression).

My compassion for you regarding the stress in your life. I suggest you look at Earthclinic.com for St. John's Wort. That works for depression and is cheap.
I don't know where you live but getting the basic blood work at the city/county nursing facility would be a good start. The cost here is $20. They do good/bad cholesterol, blood sugar and blood pressure screening.
The balance in your digestive tract could be off from antibiotics or something else. Yogurt and probiotic acidophylis are inexpensive fixes.
Have you been anywhere you could have picked up a stomach parasite? I can't remember the names of the water parasites, sorry. The health food stores carry charcoal tablets that can absorb about anything in your digestive system all the way to food poisoning.
Best wishes and let us know how you are doing.
Oh, butter is the worst thing I eat and have switched over to I Can't Believe It's Not Butter light. Next is candy, ice cream, cakes, cookies.
ETA correct spelling

Maybe you have a gluten or lactose problem? Or another allergy.
