How many have said to themselves, "I'll never say such-and-such"?
I've caught myself saying
- Don't run with a sucker in your mouth!
- If I have to pull this car over...!
- Cool it, mister!

#idunno# Yeah, CPS has gotten all strict about that I know! But I really do wish I could transport one a week ahead to wait for us to catch up. It'd be a vacation for my ears. That boy talks all the freakin' time and at the top of his lungs.

Just last night I said to my 12 year old "if all of your friends jumped off the bridge, would you follow" For Christ's sake, I swore I would never say something as stupid as that to my children....

My mom's favorite was I'll knock you into next week! I wish I could........ Oh, is that a bad thing to say? ? What about threatening to leave them on the side of the highway? There's no threat of violence involved, so that's ok, right?

Over the holidays DS was acting out and my dad told him he needed to stop doing something. I was in the other room and heard it, so I stepped around the corner and did the "I'm watching you" move... I almost busted out laughing before I could turn around because I couldn't believe I'd done that!

I am turning into my Mom. DH said my laugh even sounds like hers. I look so much like my mom that I scared one of our older relatives when we were all at the hospital waiting around for her heart surgery to over a couple of years ago. She thought I was Mom walking down the hall. lol or Not sure which.

Guilty as charged.
The first time I noticed it was - "NO! Because I said so!!" I almost died from the shame of hearing it come out of my mouth. Now I try and channel my dad - he at least gave a reason why he was saying no (no, because you didn't do xxx like you were told).

"You'll understand when your older." urgh it even annoys me when I say it...but it is true. One that I enjoy copying is my dad's classic answer when I'd ask, "Daddy, do you love me?" His response was always, "Too much!!!"

No, not really. My father wasn't much of a father--I can't remember him admonishing us for anything. My stepmother, one of the most evil human beings on the planet, had some favorite expressions but I would never utter them. Doing so would pay tribute to her and I refuse to do that.

My sisters and I were not raised by our biological mother (long story), but at some point during our teenage years, our mother magically re-appeared. After her first visit, she started writing us letters... My sisters' penmanship is IDENTICAL to hers! Like, it's weird that their penmanship so closely mimic our mother's since our mother most definitely was not around to teach us to read or write.

I now hear myself saying stuff like that to the grandkids! AARGHHH!
The one I always hated most was hearing "Because I told you to". I heard myself saying that to the 4 yo - and he did!

"Put down that stick before you put somebody's eye out!" - even had my mom's inflection the same.
DT - do you remember getting references to "being sent to Fr. Baker's" if you misbehaved too much? My kids wouldn't get the reference, but that was one of my dad's favorites.

I always say "Because I said so". I swore I would never say that, but now I feel that I don't have to justify myself to a 5 and 7 year old. Mom's word is good enough. LOL, I say the same thing...

I know several times I've told my step-DGD that between my job and home, I work like a dog. It never hit me until reading this thread that I got that line from my Mom.

OMG YES! I can't use it on my kids though, because the in-laws are related to him somehow.
