Hello, I am currently trying to lose my gut, what is the best way of achieving that? I have a stationary bike, but wondering if walking\running is better for that procedure? Also, I did drink a lot of soda, was up to 5 or 6 cans a day, and now down to one diet soda a day, any other suggestions\ideas are helpful! Thank you!

From various sources my understanding is you cannot target a specific area to lose weight. Daily exercise of 45 minutes with 1800 intake of calories might be a place to start. Cutting down on soda was a great start. good luck.

Weight loss pretty much boils down to calories in versus calories out. Spot reducing is a myth -- your body will lose fat in its own predetermined pattern. Proper diet and exercise will cause you to lose weight. For the next week, write down EVERYTHING you eat and drink, including quantities where available. That will give you a good place to start.

Drinking lots of water might help. I have been trying to have a glass every time I want something to drink, instead of reaching for my next Pepsi. I've cut down on soda, but I won't do diet except for Dr. Pepper, which does taste somewhat normal.

80% of weight loss is nutrition. Concentrate on that... cutting down on the empty calories of pop was a good thing!
And, as others have said, you cannot spot reduce.

One or two days a week of the old grapefruit/egg diet drops a lot of water weight. It's what is says, 1/2 to one grapefruit and one or two eggs 3 times a day. Add a green salad with zero dressing the first day. The 2nd day, steak and salad for dinner along with the grapefruit. I think the diet is too harsh to continue for the 2 weeks.
Progresso light soups are recommended by WW. A large salad or bowl of vegetables before any meal helps fill you up. No sugar chewing gum.
Reduced eating the day after lunch or dinner out will help. Alternate reduced eating and regular eating days keep the deprived factor down.
Long term, a balanced eating plan with all the food groups is the best.

Couple of things to point out about this as this isn't totally true. A healthy diet is necessary for long term weight loss. A great place to start is 40/40/20 protein, carb, fats. When dieting you can lower the carb/fat but not below 20/10. And you can spot reduce with certain topical creams. No the creams won't work unless you're calorie deficient but they will help fat come off the area it's applied to first.

If you concentrate on building your abs, it won't matter if there is a layer of fat over them. You need to lose weight overall to lose your stomach.
Karma to you for reducing your soda intake!

Not sure what you mean here. There are topical gels that are proven to accellerate fat loss from where they are applied.

Okay, maybe I wasn't clear. I was saying that you won't be able to see your ab muscles if there is fat over them. Besides, using a cream is cheating!

Plank, push ups, crunchs and leg raises. A few sets take about 10 to 15 minutes. This is the minimum workkout.

I dunno Later, most fashion models have little to no muscle let alone muscle tone.

I don't really find most female fashion models attractive. The men are, but they didn't get those bodies outside of a gym.
I agree with J, calories in/calories out, but you have to keep the muscle or you're gonna look like crap.

I've always heard it's better to start dieting slowly. You don't want to shock your body into starvation mode, which lowers your metabolism and makes your body try to store extra fat. You want a calorie deficit to lose weight, but don't start with or try to maintain a crazy big one. Start by making gradual changes in your diet, slowly ramp up the exercise, and focus more on how you look and feel than what a scale says.

I agree with DH. You're more likely to succeed and make changes stick if you take baby steps. I gave up sodas first, and then slowly introduced other changes into my diet over time (a period of several years). Same with exercise, I started small and slowly built up my endurance and strength. I never tried to push myself so hard that I would want to quit, and I've learned not to feel guilty if I fall off the wagon once in a while, or if I have a bad day and don't do as much in a workout as I normally would. The most important part is to stick with a healthy routine and make sure you don't stop. Never stop. Don't be like those New Year's resolution people that give up a few weeks/months because they don't see instant results.
