Just had my first boot camp class this morning at 5:30, and holy crap! Everything hurts, my face is still all red, but I'm so proud of myself! Class is Mondays and Wednesdays for 2 months. I should be in fine shape for the wedding and beyond! ;D

I did one of those last year. They started another one early this year, but it didn't really work with my schedule. I wasn't really interested in doing another one at this point, but I did enjoy the BC class that I took.
ENJOY!

awesome, I've done boot camp the past 2 summers. it's been a great ass-kicker for me, since I can definitely be lazy if I want to. can I ask what program you're doing? I did Ultimate Bootcamp, which is mostly Boston and inside route 128, but they started out at Framingham State a couple years ago.

It's actually through my local YMCA, I've heard good things about it! 5:30am is really way too early for me, but I always feel good for the day after working out early. Although, I'm feeling today's workout somethin fierce :/ it will just get better from here!

In soooo much pain today. Getting up from my desk & walking helps a bit, but my entire body has never been this sore in my life! Even after my most hardcore hikes my quads have never hurt this much. I'm hoping it's better enough for class again tomorrow morning! It will only get easier from here on out.
::runs off to find more meds::

Try the naproxin or ibuprofen before class. Eat a bite before taking it though. If the quality of the rest of your day is better, it's worth it.
What you eat afterward could help, too.
ETA: Congratulations.

Ooooh a bath sounds fantastic! We have a small stupid tub though... maybe. I did get a heating pad for the quads. I will take meds before class tomorrow with a little food. Tried walking on the treadmill earlier and it didn't help so hopefully I'll be less sore by tomorrow morning!

When I started Boot Camp, I couldn't run one lap (the track is 1/3 mile). Now I can run a 5k faster than I did 10 years ago.
I do need to get back to doing the push ups though. I just HATE them! And I have shoulder problems.
we did PT tests the first night, at the half way point, and the last class. The difference amazing! I didn't lose any weight (didn't really expect to), but I lost a lot of inches.

haha, I didn't mind the pushups so much but absolutely hated the running! and I am not big on upper body strength....I've had issues with one wrist since back in HS - I actually found that it was better for me to do fist pushups instead of the typical flat palm/weight on the base of the hand (where Sif starts if you're into palmistry like me) cael, keep stretching. when you're cold, do slow static stretches, and you will minimize the pain between workouts. if you workout on your own in between, hold those static stretches longer and farther than you would otherwise. if your instructors are doing it right, you'll be OK between workouts to do whatever the next one requires. they don't stress the same muscles two workouts in a row. they will also cut newbies some slack to account for residual soreness. trust me, I've done this before.

I actually did OK this morning! I woke up a bit less sore, and even though it hurt getting going in class, I did the whole thing with minimal-ish pain. Sore again now but not as bad as yesterday. I didn't feel too bad because one other girl (who was lagging with me Monday, lol) said she also couldn't move yesterday, so I wasn't the only one! Next class is Monday so I have a few days, going to try to get some walking and stretching in at least so I'm not completely out of the zone by then. I'd like to rock climb Friday but I may be too sore for that, we'll see!
Chiver, do you do a boot camp regularly? I might make this a semi-regular thing if I end up seeing/feeling good results!

yup, it's been my summer workout for the past 2 years. I steer clear the rest of the year because the hours are polar opposite to my hockey schedule. I overlapped for a month the first year, and I was pretty useless from lack of sleep. I may not do it this coming summer though, my favorite trainer isn't there anymore...and I don't care much for her replacement. when that's the trainer half the classes, it makes for a not-so-fun time. I like the Jillian Michaels dvds I ordered online, they are definitely in line with the constant motion/muscle confusion basis of the boot camp I've been doing. I think this summer I'll set my alarm for the same boot camp time, but go for a run near home and come back to a dvd workout in my living room. much cheaper anyway.

That's great! Do you do a private program or was it a fitness club program? I'm lucky to have a really good YMCA in my area, that's where mine is. A group of us have been trying to get the P90X dvds to check out but if we can't find them maybe I'll look into Jillian Michaels. I'm not hurting nearly as much today as I have the last 2 days, so yay! My quads are feeling at least 50% better but now my hamstrings are acting up. I figure they probably hurt already but I didn't notice them because of the quads really wanted to go to the rock gym tomorrow before my drive down to NJ but I still don't know if I'll be feeling good enough for it, we'll see!

it's a private program. Ultimate Bootcamp is mostly Boston/within route 128. my college roommate did it when it first started up, and I found a location in Framingham a couple years ago. I work right up the street, so it's a great location for me. it's M-Th, 4 week sessions. I've survived enough sessions to get the "junkie rate" but it's still $200 a session. I keep going back because I do much better in a group setting. it's not competitive at all, except in my own head. as far as not signing up this summer - I'm debating a couple cruises this year, though, and the dvd's are already paid for.

The difference amazing! I didn't lose any weight (didn't really expect to), but I lost a lot of inches. That's what people need to realize! I don't weigh myself because I honestly don't care about the number; it's the inches that matter! Good luck and have fun with your boot camp, OP! I've always wanted to sign up for one, just searching for something that works for my schedule. I am thinking of one of the ones that start in the spring summer that are on the waterfront in my town.

I've heard of Ultimate Bootcamp actually! Seemed pricey to me at first, but for 4 days a week that isn't bad. There are two classes my Y runs at the same time - the basic bootcamp (which I'm in) on Monday & Wednesday, and a boot camp for strength, which is Tues/Thurs. If you do both of those at the same time, which some people are, for a Y member that's close to $200. I don't know if I could do 4 days a week lol, two is a good start for me. I might do the strength one next session.
Meghan, hope you can find something that works! 5:30-6:30am is brutal but fits perfectly into my schedule, lol. A waterfront outdoor one sounds nice.. my rec department does an outdoor one during the summer I think, maybe I'll check that one out sometime too.

Had day 3 of class yesterday. Was a bit sore during the day yesterday, but today.... nothing! I'm so happy! Last Tuesday I was hurting so bad I could barely walk. Really proud of myself, lol! Hoping to make it to the gym today to do something mild and maybe weigh myself too -we don't have a scale and I'd like to see if I've dropped anything. I've been working really hard on my eating the last few weeks too on top of boot camp.

This morning was the last boot camp class of this session, I made it! ;D Only skipped one day out of 14 or 16 classes. Unfortunately next session it goes to 4 days a week, which I just can't do right now. I signed up for a pilates class and I'm going to do a one-day a week cardio & strength intervals class too. as a result of boot camp I can now run (!!!!) and am in better shape than I've been in for years. I totally recommend anyone thinking about doing a boot camp do it - don't be intimidated, or think you can't do it or are too out of shape. Go for it!

YEAH!! Congratulations Cael!!
Did you lose any weight/inches? How's the plans for being in shape for the wedding? Did you make your goals (if you had any)?
I skipped going to the gym this morning due to some personal issues I am having at home. DH came over to give me a hug before going to work and he commented that I'm easier to hug (his arms went all the way around me easily instead of stretching like he usually does!!). So, even if my scale is a lying bastard, the lost inches are making up for it!! ;D

Thanks!! ;D My main goal with this was to kick my @ss into shape, not necessarily lose weight. I mean, I'd love to lose weight and I've been slowly dropping a pound here and there by eating better & keeping up w/ the working out, but I knew I wouldn't like, lose 20lbs in two months - I don't lose weight quickly unless I'm sick (to be honest I don't need to lose much if any weight, I'd just like to). Last time i weighed myself at the gym was a week or so ago, and I weighed about 5lbs less than over the winter when I'd get on the scale, so there is some progress! I am definitely seeing some toning in the rear area and thighs so that's great I'm going to keep running and watching what I eat and hopefully drop a few more lbs off the backside before the wedding! Nice thing about my dress - it's ball gown so it poofs out below the bodice, and the areas I need the most work is my lower half, which won't even show anywhere in the dress ;D We're also taking a cruise to Bermuda for our honeymoon after the wedding so I'd like to be in good beach shape It's ok to take a day off sometimes, and congrats on the inches lost, that's great! Scales are lying bastards, never trust them
