They don't want to refer their patients to a chiropractor because they want to keep them coming back for for meds. I also went to a chiropractor for an auto accident injury and found relief.

Doctors think chiropractors are quacks.

Well my chiropractor told me not to wear high heels so I would have to agree.

They are in direct competition that is why.

Personally, for back pain I recommend physical therapy. Not only did it get rid of my pain, but the therapist gave me a list of stretching exercises I could do to prevent the pain from coming back. It worked!

Chiropractic treatment has no scientific basis that's why. I've heard so many good things about them that I went with an open mind to them twice and they did all of jack and shit. That's why people prefer things that actually work like pills. That being said, if you get a placebo effect from them more power to you.

But, Pig, the pills don't fix the problem. They just mask it. I want the problem fixed.
Understood, but sometimes there is no way to "fix" the problem. Most surgeries to alleviate pain are never 100%.

I have used chiropractors in the past with great success.

Doctors believe that relaxing the muscles with muscle relaxers will allow the spine to correct,
That's not why doctors prescribe relaxers. They are for reducing spasticity and have nothing to do with treating your spine. If chiropractic treatment always worked don't you think they would be a lot more people using them? Not saying some people don't get something out of it but most don't.

I If your skeletal system is held in place by your tendons and muscles, how will adjusting the bones correct the problem? If you adjust the back/neck whatever, won't the muscles and tendons just pull it back out of place. So, wouldn't strengthening the muscles be the real fix? Exercising the muscles with the back misaligned, makes the muscles pull the back INTO misalignment. Getting the back aligned properly then strengthen it will keep things in place as long as you don't aggravate the area. If you think a chiro will help you, then go see one and pay for it yourself. That visit is a lot better than a handful of pills. The chiro I have now has a person see a regular physician before they will do any adjusting if it's a new injury. An old misalignment they will treat. I do not understand why a m.d. will put a dislocated joint back in place but won't recognize the many vertebrae or joints of the back that can go out. I went to a chiro for electronic acupuncture to quit smoking in 1990. I have not smoked since. I went through every program and that one worked.

My Chiropracter fixed my back. I used to be bent forward. They did before and after x-rays to show the change.
My chiro office also does the ice/stim and they do a form of PT giving you excercises to correct your posture fix your muscles etc. My Chiro office has a gym attached and they have Stationary weights and equipment and classes for Zumba, Yoga, body pump (les mills classes) etc.

chiro's are like any other profession including medical doctors to mechanics...some are ethical, some are not...some know what they are doing, some don't...
i was skeptical of the profession until one helped my wife...what impressed me was when the treatments were helping her he would tell her she did not need to see him as often...
as for me, i had taken some pine trees down on our lot shortly after we moved in a few years back...i cut them into about 4' sections and would burn them a little at a time...when they cleared the lot next to us they told us they had a permit to burn the downed trees so i wanted to gather up all the cut up logs to put on the big pile and be done with them...well i got down to the last log which was eat up with bugs, termites, ants, etc...so when i lifted it i tried to keep it away from my body...big mistake...i felt my back go out...
the next day it hurt so bad i could not sit at my desk...i had to stand but even then i was half bent over...one of the guys i work with's dad is a chiro so i went to see him...after the first visit, i could stand and sit and after the second treatment i was good to go...
so to me, it's finding one that is ethical and knows what he is doing...

I'm still trying to find a reputable witch doctor. All the local shamans have done nothing for me even though the local villagers swear by them.

Ktune, it really freaked me out when one of them put me in that neck stretcher thing.......it feels like some sort of torture device. And I won't even get into how painful that nerve they rub on the side of your jaw and chest is.....I was wincing and begging him to stop!

never had the neck stretcher thing...i've seen them and don't think i'd like it either...the two that i go to that i trust both work the same way...i lay face down first and they check to see if my heels line up...they seem to know right where to go to after that...it has never really been painful

Well I didn't go for back problems so I doubt they'd do the same things for both of us. He never cracked my back like the other time I went for a back issue. He did crack my upper back by having me cross my arms in front of my chest and then pushing really hard on my chest/arms.

i have a couple problem areas that will give me a problem from time to time...the one i stated above when i threw my back out...that has happen twice since, both times doing a twisting or side to side motion trying to firm up the obliques...now i'm just doing back extensions on a roman chair and have not had a problem in awhile...
the other is in the middle of my back that will radiate pain to my shoulders when it needs attention...i think this is related to sitting more than when i was younger...getting old has is drawbacks...lol
