Drinking more water won't do anything unless it's caused by dehydration which is unlikely. I suffer from this as well. Fish oil might help you....didn't help me. I used Restasis and it worked marginally, wasn't worth it. Tried the punctal plugs and they were hell, had to have them removed after two days and scratched eyeballs later.
Now I realize that I have to live with it and use OTC drops about 3 times a day. It's hell isn't it?

Sometimes I have to make myself blink. Oh one thing that helps is to use the artificial tears BEFORE bed time. I never used to do that because I figured your eyes are closed and wouldn't need them then. But an eye Doctor told me to use them before bed because your body doesn't produce much lubrication when you are asleep and it does help. Who would have thunk. Also, I don't blink enough.....sometimes you have to force yourself to do so. Especially when you're trying to pay attention like at meetings or long face to face conversations.

My DH has dry eye. What works for him is Refresh PM. It is a heavy lubricant to use at night. The product does cloud your vision a little if you awaken in the night and need to see. On waking in the morning your vision will be clear. During the day he uses regular Refresh. Both of these are OTC, were recommended by an eye doctor, and have worked for me as well.
If you live in a dry climate, try using a humidifier during the day. We have to have one during the winter months.

I have large eyeballs. My eyes don't always close completely when I sleep and they are always red and dry. I always look like I am high. Drops don't help the redness, but they do make my eyes feel better.

bobosensei--have you ever been checked out for Grave's Disease? Protruding eyes is one symptom (my eyes started to "get bigger", my resting pulse went to about 120 a minute and I got exhausted and weak going up a flight of stairs before it was diagnosed with me)--just a thought...
Sorry, iggy, no answers here. I had lasix two years ago and I just use OTC drops or saline when they feel dried out.

Thanks for the info on Grae's disease apple- my docs have never mentioned it. I just looked up the sympotoms for Grave's disease. My thyroid has been checked many times and it is always normal. So I think I'm probably in the clear. My eyes have always been too big so it isn't like a new symptom of something.

I actually attended a lecture about eyes. The doc talked about the duct plug implants. Ow, ow ow ow.... I have those. The thought of them freaked me out but they really work for me and while I noticed them the first few days they have been in for months now and I can't feel them at all anymore .Doesn't hurt when they put them in either. I have them on the upper ducts but I think they can do the lower also.

I do better when I don't sleep with ceiling fan on. You would think since the eyes are closed it wouldn't matter, but it does.

Can't remember the brand but after abusing my eyes using wet wipes I was in extreme need of dry eye relief. I purchased artificial tears that said "gel" on the package. In addition to kicking my wet wipes habit I used these and totally reversed a severe problem with my eyes.
