No, this isn't a discussion forum about a new exercise program. It's about talking in the gym. When I'm there I hardly talk to anyone. I try to focus on what I'm there for, get it done, then go home. There are always a few guys who can't help themselves and they have to start talking to me, they go on and on about all kinds of things. I usually try to answer a specific question, but I have learned once you do that, it's hard to get them to shut up. Anyway, how much to you talk when your trying to work out? I see some guys come in then talk for a full hour, only to leave because they ran out of time to work out. It's more of a social club for them I guess. I also like the ones who have all kinds of advice, but they look like they never tried any of it.

When I go to the gym I don't talk. I am trying to figure out what exercise to do next and how many reps and sets...and trying to psych myself up for the exertion my body is about to face.

But does it piss you off when someone is always trying to talk to you. It breaks my concentration and I feel like I need to respond with something other than a grunt.

I wear ear buds the entire time I'm in the gym. No one talks to me and I don't talk to anyone. At most I may make eye contact and gesture to someone as to whether they are done with a machine or not so I can use it.
I've seen guys at the gym gabbing away on a cell. I agree for some it is a social thing rather than exercising.

At my main f.c., only the exercise buddies and people with fitness trainers are talking. I do say hi to a few people in passing. I did talk to one woman I know when she was finished working out about whether she was going to a social club function. Her trainer was there in a flash to see if I had interrupted her cardio. This club has video surveillance.
They also frown on tee shirt advertising. (eta) In 1 1/2 yrs. I have heard one brief cell phone conversation.
At the f.c. where I play tennis, people talk to each other a lot in the locker room and lobby between classes or court times. I did get a tip in the weight room to use pads on the dip bars when doing leg lifts. I do say hi again in passing but no long conversations because everyone wants to get finished and move on to refreshment/refueling.

Meh. I see a lot of people who go to the gym just for the social aspects. I used to look at them with disdain but now a days I try to be friendly as much as I can. Being one of the better lifters makes people want to talk to you so you get used to it. If they talk to long just tell them you don't want to get cold and have to keep going.

It's funny Fam, I was asking two guys who I kinda know how they were doing an exercise I had never done before but saw them doing. One of them said "You're asking me?!?"

Fam it's funny a few weeks ago (I don't use the locker room very often) some guys were talking about some old fat guy who is ALWAYS in the locker room naked. Sure enough once I looked for it the same old fat guy they were talking about was there.....naked......everytime I've been in there since.

There should be a rule that unless the guys look like Dr.Pig or azphx, they are not allowed to be naked in the locker room. All in favor...say aye.

Haha, I'm not a fan of showering at the gym so even I don't get into the buff there. As far as gym chatter, I wear my earbuds and no one ever bugs me!

My vote is "Aye".
Few people would be in the gym if it were a beauty contest. There are enough training facilities here that some gyms are BB and PL specific. Many are rehab and/or athlete training for specific sports. Mine is old granny, mid-years, travelers, a few athletes and many Hooter-type bar servers. I avoid the place early morning and evenings. I have zero idea what the clients look like.
I can go to 3 different sites but use the one closest to my house.
