I stumbled on an interview with Ricky Lake (a talk show host who lost a bunch of weight) and they asked her which diet was best. Her answer was that they all work if you follow them. The trick is to follow the regime. Do you agree?

yes
But diets are only a short term solution. In order to make long term changes there is only one solution.

The one that works is moderate eating of a balanced diet in all of the food groups. I really like the color coded food groups best. And eating until just full.
I do have short term solutions to drop weight fast. Very unpleasant and unnecessry.

I've never been on a diet, but I've been around many people who have. It seems like they all just end up going back to their old ways and gaining the weight back. Adapting a more healthy lifestyle including good food choices and regular exercise is the best way to go for long term weight control in my opinion.

I think I mentioned this before, but every person I personally know of that has gone through the gastric bypass surgery has gained most or all of their former weight back. When I've tried to suggest that perhaps it's more of a lifestyle issue, I've gotten push back and been told that I'm lucky because I have "skinny" genes.

i have a good giggle every time i think about this one girl that i used to work with. her first week on the job i remember her saying she and her sister were cutting out coffee to lose some pounds. over four years she probably tried every diet under the sun and gained weight every time going from a fairly slim girl to actually needing to lose weight. if only she would stop "dieting" i'm sure she'd regain her slimmer self.
her nastiest diet consisted of only a lemon/cayenne/honey drink, blech.

Adapting a more healthy lifestyle including good food choices and regular exercise is the best way to go for long term weight control in my opinion. That's because they probably just jump into it and drop everything that used to eat and get on 800 cals per day "diet" start going nuts on no carbs, counting how low they can go with their calories... Then they are miserable, always hungry, tired, and hate their "new" food. So they go back to their old ways. Studies show, that people who get on crazy diets and just jump into them, fall of the wagon and gain all the weight back PLUS more.
